Hammerhead Karoo (3) Outside Workouts View & Functions

I have been googling like a mad man, and have watched everything I can find out YouTube, without really getting wiser.

Has anyone done a lot outdoor workouts with the Hammerhead, and can help me out a bit?

I am currently running Wahoo, and the outdoor workouts view is great, and customisable in the app. Some of the things I really enjoy with Wahoo:

  • Easy to customise what data I wish to see on the workout screen
  • There is visual representation of the workout as well as numbers
  • (Super important function) I can jump between the steps of the workout during the ride. So lets say I have stared a ride, and I need to start the intervals easier than the workout has prescribed, I can jump to the next (or previous) step and continue from there.
  • Load a workout mid ride, so if I want to do 2h endurance before the workout, I can do that, then load the workout.

With that said… I need help with the following views/functions on the Karoo 3:

  • How does the workout look visually? Like, what does the workout view look like?
  • What options do I have function wise to alter the workout? Can I jump between the steps?
  • Can I load a workout mid ride?
  • Is the workout view customisable?
  • Is it possible to have pages that are focused on the current lap? On the Wahoo there is a specific “Lap” screen that I can edit what data I wish to have on

Anything I might have missed above in terms of workouts outside on the Karoo 3 would be much appreciated

My normal outdoor ride is a ride with maps (my main screen always), then I load a workout mid ride when I am ready, but then I often jump between the workout steps to shorten recovery or whatnot. Then once the workout is done, I usually remove the workout and continue my ride.

I often jump between the workout page and the map page. Since I need the maps mid workout as well.

Thanks!

Thanks for these! Ive read/watched both, and while he touches on the subject, it seems like the summary is “it sucks compared to Wahoo and Garmin”…

But was hoping to hear a bit more from riders here on the forum.

@Jonathan Aren’t you running Karoo? You must be doing some outside workouts based on your instagram?

I think I am particularly interested in the custom page stuff… Because looking at the screen below (stolen from @dcrainmaker) I still miss “average lap power” on my Wahoo. So I actually have a custom lap page setup for that.

So wondering, maybe thats the best way to do it on the Karoo 3 as well?

I mean, the most important things are: Target watts, current watts (3s-5s), lap watt average, time left in the interval, and then maybe next and previous lap watts.

I am guessing it’s possible to make such custom screen on the Karoo?

I have only had it for a day, but I think you can do most of what you want.

What options do I have function wise to alter the workout?

You can adjust the difficulty with + and - buttons.

Can I jump between the steps?

Yes, swipe down from the top and press arrows

Can I load a workout mid ride?

Yes

Is the workout view customisable?

No, but the fields you see behind the purple workout view is. You can have up to 4 different metrics there.

Is it possible to have pages that are focused on the current lap? On the Wahoo there is a specific “Lap” screen that I can edit what data I wish to have on

Yes, the (up to 4) top metrics on the current page will be visible when the workout is being done.

I still miss “average lap power” on my Wahoo. So I actually have a custom lap page setup for that.

You can have that as one of the 4 metrics behind the purple workout view.

I mean, the most important things are:
Target watts

Visible in the purple workout view

current watts (3s-5s)

Visible in the purple workout view (5s)

lap watt average

Customisable on one of the max 4 fields behind workout view

time left in the interval,

Visible in the purple workout view

and then maybe next and previous lap watts.

Previous lap watts can be customisable on one of the max 4 fields behind workout view
You have to scroll down to see what’s coming up next. There you will also find the power of previous laps.
A few sec before next interval starts the thing animates and tells you what’s coming.

While I like my Karoo2 much more than my old Bolt, the way Wahoo does the workouts is much better.

You can do everything that you want, including the average lap power. TR actually has an article to help you set it up. I’ve got one page set up the TR page and then one set up to match what I had on my Bolt ( minus the graph view as that’s not an option on the Karoo).

THANKS! this was great!

So, you can have a custom page, where 4 metrics can be seen behind the workout screen?

Yes. I have a workout profile set up with the Karoo Workout page and then 3 custom pages that I swipe between. I really only look at the default page to see a visual of what’s coming next.
