World Wide Disaster Day is coming up mid Dec, mark your calendars!
The OP is amazed and a little appalled at how far from the original humor this thread has gotten.
The OP is in good company… I’m sure that I’m not the only one to feel the same way.
Kenji is the best!
Take a look at this thread from earlier this year. The OP goes as far as calling TR out for false advertising and eventually fraud in a later comment.
Post 89 from the TR crew mentions OP did either the same or additional volume during rest weeks as they did on training weeks. Also found they added on running volume. In my view, those are the posts this thread is referencing. Not the “Hey, I am stuck at FTP X, can you help me improve”.
edit: fixed typo
So recipe means different things to different folks it seems.
If it’s Training Stress + Effort + Training Frequency + Recovery = Results, then I agree.
If it’s following a prescribed plan, then I don’t.
My plan is simply to have no fixed plan. But that’s not the same as an absence of a plan.
I use the Train Now feature and that’s it. I simply choose one of the rides on offer (may hit Refresh a few times to cycle the recommendations) and depending on how fatigued I feel, or where I need to improve based on progression levels, I would just pick something and do it. Sometimes I ride many days consecutively, sometimes not.
Am I getting bad results? Not at all - I’m getting great results. I am basically a noob cyclist and a couple of years ago signed up, did a couple of months on a plan - hated it because life kept getting in the way causing me to miss a schedules session and so when it came to ride I would have to re-jig the plan and it wasn’t always easy. Then some personal stuff and illness meant 18 months basically sedentary.
I returned to TR about 9 weeks ago. Train Now suggested rides similar to where my fitness was 18 months earlier - despite the lay-off and illness. I forced myself to do it anyway and it wasn’t that bad. But after a week I had experienced a couple of super tough rides I couldn’t get through, so did an FTP detection. This jacked it up a further 3.6%. I thought that had to be wrong, talked with support, and ended up persisting with it. And I haven’t actually had further rides I couldn’t get through. 7 weeks on and my progression levels are broadly between 4 and 6, but my VO2 is the furthest across and TR had a detection to suggest my FTP has gone up. What’s not to like?
TrainNow clearly works. For me, it IS my plan. It’s NOT a regimented plan but a super-flexible one. Life doesn’t permit regimented plans for most of us. I simply train when I can, and pick one of the TrainNow offerings that I feel would be good to do at the time, then focus on recovery afterwards. I’m getting results. I realise as a new-ish cyclist that results are going to happen, but they are happening fast and I’m 49, almost 50. Plus I used Wahoo System before TR and was doing real rides outside. So while I say I’m a noob, I have had about 1 year riding prior to starting with TR where my FTP hasn’t shifted anywhere near the rate it’s currently moving.
I reckon a lot of zwifters try TR. They’ve probably been seeing the post-race FTP figure go up. But the honest and experienced cyclists know that FTP figure is well above what that person can actually sustain for an hour. In that sense TR FTP is likely accurate and real-world, while Zwift is, well, gamified FTP (assuming the users aren’t doing ramp tests). So when such a Zwifter who’s training only involved doing races in Z4 and Z5 (top of 5 zone model, which I believe Zwift relabel as Z1 and Z2) finds their gains have plateaud and come to TR, they likely expect the same rate of FTP gains they saw in the early days of their Zwift races. It’s unrealistic expectations on their part.
Jeez, what a bunch of pedants
It was a joke, no need to analyse it like it’s some type of long lost religious text, which when you figure out it’s true intent, will bring you ever lasting enlightenment!
If you liked the joke, give it a thumbs up. If you didn’t, move along with you life!
Now I need to take my own advice
I feel that meme deeply…
Just commit to the more amazing breakfast burrito in the first place, so scrambled is the goal and you can’t miss
Can we just skip straight to burrito recipes/ideas??
As a MTB’er at heart:
- SSB 1 & 2, General Build, XC Olympic is one of those that might just cover enough bases outside that genre to be considered decent for many? Could swing to Short Track for the shorter stuff or Marathon on the other end.
I’ll do eggs, black beans/refried beans, roasted jalepenos, and cheddar.
Agreed it’s not a real burrito.
That said…when stuck in fast food land, chipotle is the only thing I’ll eat. I’d say it’s actually real food (unheard of in the fast food world), but not real mexican.
Always have left over rice for breakfast fried rice. Cilantro is in the garden…
Yea I’m in Chicago…we can get anything. Especially mexican. The authentic stuff is just so greasy though.
Side note…I wonder if my local place will sell me mole by the quart…
I’ve been quiet for far too long.
In fact, my post may well have been an encoded message that originated with Saint Eddy long ago in a hidden mountain top pain cave in near Brussels. Saint Eddy divined the One True Way ™, but realized his methods were simply too much for mere mortals to understand or use responsibly. He created a set of tests that aspiring greats must master before they could harness the awesome power he discovered. Once these tests were completed and a cyclist was deemed worthy, they would be invited into the secret clan, where they could share the secret and further develop their awesome power according to the sacred principles.
The identities of these awesome cyclists has always been a closely guarded secret, although rumors spread in each generation about which cyclists are training the One True Way ™. One thing has remained clear, however, and that is that spreading the sacred principles to the unwashed masses without requiring the proper sacrifice and passage of tests is dealt with quietly but harshly. Have you wondered what ever happened to the Velominati? Wondered how you could win 7 tours before they took it all away? Have you wondered what really happened to Coach Chad? I can neither confirm nor deny the rumors that they misused the One True Way ™, but far be it from me to take a chance.
Yes, there could be a hidden message in my post, but one must wonder whether people who dismiss it as a “joke” are really missing the true intent, or whether they are already progressing to the next level of Eddyhood, and simply covering their tracks. By the same token, squabbllng over minutia or the degree to which users must slavishly follow training plans is a good way to appear to appear to have missed the point entirely, so we can’t dismiss those posters as clueless, either.
In the end, full enlightenment is always elusive. C’est la velo.
The spell is cracked and I can see it clearly now, the beautiful orange sunlight bursting through the pearly white cloud. Never shall I wander in a scrambled haze again now that Saint Eggy has shown me my error in mixing up a joke with a yolk.
If it’s greasy what you are eating is not “authentic” Mexican food. Though for the mid-west maybe as close as you get.
I see the mods are taking the Zwift burrito power up and turning it in to a real thing.
My sympathy to the drafters downwind.
