3 times I thought I knew better than the suggested AI suggested adaptions, and three times AI was right and I was wrong. Being stubborn I persisted. No more. I need to learn to trust. It’s bee close to perfect in most cases
I have let TR take the wheel for the last year, accepting all but one FTP and every adaptation and it has treated me well.
The one FTP I didn’t accept was after I took about a month off the trainer. I was running several times a week and I was also doing an unstructured ride outside each week. This was before TR pulled runs in. AIFTP wanted to drop my FTP like 25 points and that just seemed like way too much so I just kept the FTP I had prior. I imagine if I would’ve accepted the lower FTP it would’ve gone back up pretty fast and not really made a difference in the grand scheme, but ya know, ego
There are times to rage against the machine, there are times to submit. Raging has gone well for me, but I still consider what it is trying to tell me.
Awe, that’s good to hear! Thanks for the posting about it
My first season using AI FTP I accepted all the FTP bumps and progressed quite well up to my A race. This year I thought I was smarter and declined almost all of them to try and increase my PL’s and get into some longer duration intervals before my race. Looking back I think accepting the FTP bumps actually served me much better and I was quite a bit stronger going into that race vs this years.
Lesson learned, I’m working on a cyclocross plan for the fall right now and will be accepting all FTP bumps this time!
Ordinarily, I’d recommend never backing down from a challenge, but I, too, have discovered teh AI is generally smarter than me.
But I didn’t draft no deputy!
Upvoted for the thread title.
A big part of me getting an interval session in is the available roads &/or terrain. I have sometimes declined plan adaptations simply for practicality’s sake: the proposed workout could not be done as hill repeats on my street & I did not have (or want to spend) the time commuting elsewhere to do it. Or I’ve accepted the adaptation but quietly substituted back in the original workout anyway.
Currently flying by the seat of my pants a bit, not on a plan, getting workouts & rides in where & when I can. Just moved, housing & work are both a bit up in the air with some unusual responsibilities thrown in. (I don’t enjoy riding a trainer; it’s all outside for me, unless I’m pootling around at 120w on a recumbent trainer at the gym.)
[Edit to add: last two FTP tests were only minimal improvements over AIFTP. It knows me now. Don’t think I need to fight that either.]
