In the market for a dream aero bike. What to buy?

There we go, I ordered. I figure it’s the fastest thing I can order to my specifications and intended use

Thanks for all the help and feedback!

I have watched hambini’s rant on these mass produced bike company but out of curiosity, how many out of those mass produced has defect?

I had the s3 on rim brakes but never had a problem with the bottom bracket issue or whatsoever. I have a friend who is also an owner of canyon aeroad and endurace but he has no issues on both bikes and its alsp on the high end specs of groupset.

For you as a consumer, would you really steer clear out of those brands because one person reviewed 1 frame on each and it happened to have defects on it?

How many of those mass produced bikes will have defects? I don’t think hambini knows any of that.

If a consumer wants higher end quality control then it comes with a hefty price like parlee or any botique brands. But i guess you get what you paid for.

Them parlee ain’t playing around with their price aye :joy: but i have to say they produce top quality bike and is a great ride.

curious to see how the timemachine road works out for you and on longer rides.

been interested in one for a while but never found someone in my area that actually rides it to give me an honest opinion.

After spending two hours yesterday trying to route a new shifter cable through my frame, just make sure whatever you get has wireless shifting

Sure thing @tadaka - I’ll give you a run down once I’ve put in some varying conditions (not rain obvs… )

No question, these companies sell thousands of bikes and we have no idea how many have issues. And some of the issues he points out mean you have to replace your BB every 2000km instead of 3000km or whatever; you lose 1.5 watts, etc…not much of an issue to me. I own 2 Canyons (Ultimate and Inflite) and I can’t complain as well, I would definitely buy again.

To be fair he does give credit when he spots something good, there is a video where the NDT on a Cannondale carbon frame comes out OK and he mentions that. Obviously the issue (i think it was BB hole too small) gets much more attention.

Do you have any more info on the upcoming Wilier Filante that you originally mentioned? I see there’s a empty page on Wilier’s website for a Filante SLR… Thanks!

It looks pretty sweet. Disc only, electronic gears only, aero bar and stem integrated cockpit, top of the line aero bike. Will be presented at the Giro. Basically an aero bike at the same level as their SLR Zero clilmbing bike. Premium stuff

Tarmac

I was wondering the exact same thing, because I’d like to know the extent of the problem.

The final result!

The S5 is a Great bike and one of the fastest around. Cannondale SystemSix would be in the same conversation.
For the S5, I advice going with a 380mm bar, since those are wider than the number shows. Also, it is a nice option to go with 0 offset seatpost, to move the ride in a little more of an aggressive position.
For flat crits, the 48T would be too small for me personally, and I don’t see an advantage in going 1x on a road bike, but this is your decision to make.
Don’t go with too fat tires. 23c almost always the fasest option, with 25c a close second. I don’t know a single set of wheels, that is fastest with 28c.
Also, don’t look too much into weight, it really doesn’t matter.

This is my ride for crits and flat races:

My S5 is the fastest bike I’ve ever owned. Except for the RAT axles, it’s seemingly as aero as it could get, save the disk brakes. Mines Ultegra with with the stock 50mm wheels. Hirschi’s S5 in the tour this year was DA and I bet was at the UCI weight limit, so the bike doesn’t have to be that heavy.

The latest S5 seems to have a significant design flaw. Worth inspecting the head tube regularly if you own one

I have ridden the Cervelo S5 Disc for a good 12‘000km now. 10‘000km of which on the road, 2‘000 km on the turbo. Had the bike on a plane several times, and basically rode hard for the vast majority of the time. Can’t complain about anything, and never did anything on the headset…

Whatever you get the best deal on

Dream aero bike: for me, probably a top end Madone SLR. But, at the risk of being that guy, whichever one fits you best, because I don’t believe there will be any meaningful performance difference between any of the bikes mentioned here.

The s5 looks awesome. Wish I could find a frame set for a decent price. No one ever seems to have them for a discount.
