Iām confused a bit too. I donāt see anything on the iPhone app once I switch it to outdoor. It shows no workout for the day.
I thought this was a late April fools joke
So awesome the next frontier in structured training, already in for early access.
First impressions:
@Nate_Pearson it would be great to still see a thumbnail of what the intervals roughly entail after switching x workout to ādo outside.ā And/Or if this were to be implemented having a mark or annotation when viewing from the calendar without having to click on the workout that it has been chosen to be done outside.
Criticism: after switching x workout to be done outside.
I dislike in the warmup description āgradually warm up from x to x watts over x minutesā think about the average person who doesnāt know how to equally ramp up over the course of that time. If they have been using TR for a while I doubt they would know how to because only a handful of workouts have this type of warm up per se (and Iāll admit that Iād have trouble implementing āgradually ramp upā¦ā)
It might be easier for someone to do x min at x watts then x min at x watts etc. then ride easy and intervals start. I know the idea is to make it as simple for people to do outside but this aspect is kicking me.
Do I have to go to the calendar (web only) to choose outside or can I do it in the app? Couldnāt find it.
If the option is not there, hereās a feature request.
See the notes in the FAQ of the OP.
Does every TR indoor workout have an outside workout alternative?
Not every indoor workout has an outside workout associated with it yet. The good news is that every workout in a TrainerRoad plan has an outdoor workout alternative, along with hundreds of other workouts. Weāll strive to get almost complete coverage in our library.
āYetā being the key word. But it will when it is all done.
Thatās a good idea. The problem with that is that we canāt specify line breaks in the text, so youād get this huge paragraph of a workout that would be hard to read .
Try updating the app, it should show up in your calendar list. If it doesnāt, thatās a bug that weāll get fixed quickly.
You can only switch it over on the web for now.
Iām super excited about this! Not sure of this is a dumb question or not, BUT, is pushing this new outdoor workouts to TrainingPeaks possible? Will it ever be possible? This would give automatic head u it integration.
What @GeorgeAnderson is pointing out is that Nate said every workout that is part of a training plan ALREADY has an outdoor alternative, and Big Mountain is in about 8 different plans.
FAQās are on point - anwered all my questions without needing to ask them.
Nice work TR team!
Weāre fixing that. That one should have an outside workout. Thanks for pointing it out.
Kudos to TR for this change. Although I can guess the response, I wish youād give the option of targeting HR rather than RPE. Sally Edwards served me well back in the '90s!
I did the Disaster Day and I just did Flanders. This is 100% accurate.
What about Head Unit Integration?
I know this is your first question and hereās our official message right now. āWe have nothing to announce about outside workouts on head units at this time.ā
Trying to work out how to use this function outside when you have ANT+ power meters that donāt connect to the phone. It is a case that in its current form you would need an iPhone mount and compare head unit power to what you should be doing?
If you could give us an āunofficialā message on timeframes and what could be expected that would be great.
See second sentence Chad as Big Mountain is in a number of the plansā¦
FYIā¦ Mokelumne and Mokelumne +1 are both in short power build and do not have outside workouts yet.
It is to provide you with a cue sheet. You read the instructions and execute on your own. This functionality is not to have you open TR and connect to your sensors and watch a graph like you do when indoors.
Really excited to try this. Doesnāt have to work 100%, Iām just happy that the opportunity is here and we can all work to refine this.
Now, where did I put that roll of tape
I noticed that book in my bookshelf just this weekend. Not looked at it for years
