trainerroad gave me a class schedule of Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Monday vo2max 1hr, Wednesday Anaerobic 1hr, Friday Threshold 90min, I usually train in the morning and after trying for a few months to wake up half an hour earlier on Fridays and feeling sleep deprived, I don’t know if it’s unreasonable to adjust it to 1hr
Also, how do I adjust the Friday 90min to 1 hour every week from now on, I don’t see a setting in the software!
Please help me.
I am not sure you can adjust an existing plan, though there has been more flexibility added on plan setup recently.
I think you should pick the workout duration you can do consistently. That is more important than the extra 30 minutes you fail often.
You can. I’m doing low volume masters and for whatever reason the master’s has me doing 90 threshold. I changed it to 60. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
@Hugh_Laurie,
In the calendar, select your Friday workout, then “alternate”, and set duration to 60 mins and swap an appropriate workout. Look for something similar, maybe one less interval or same intervals but shorter.
You can do the same thing when you load the workout in the app.
M.
You can change the duration for your entire plan you don’t have to do it one at a time. Search the TR FAQs but basically look for you plan name, click it or it might be in the training block and you can make the adaptation. Someone here can probably insert a graphic to show you how to do it.
I have a very similar issue and was wondering myself; do I set it to 60 mins in TR and pick a 90 min alternate when I have time, or do I set it to 90 in TR and do 60 when I dont have time?
I’ve set my originally 90 min threshold workout to 45mins. I had originally changed it to 1h but I moved to a new place and I’m taking a little more care with setting things up. A shorter duration fits with my works/ sleep schedule at the moment.
To change your plan’s training time for any day of the week:
In Calendar, find where the training block starts (there is a little box on that calendar day showing the name of the block). Click on that box. It will open up your availability for each day of the week. Modify accordingly.
@Hugh_Laurie, +1000 to what @BrianSpang just referenced… Here is a couple visuals to go along with that if still unclear…
Doing it this way WILL require you to change each block individually, but it’s certainly quicker than changing each Friday workout on it’s own.
+1001
But there is a bug with some old plans (at least there was a few weeks back) and after you update the times they wont or will revert back to the default (90 mins). If that occurs @Hugh_Laurie contact support ( support@trainerroad.com) and they’ll guide you through to deleting your old plan and creating a new plan keeping your original dates to fix it quickly.
The issue I have is while I’ve changed the 90 min threshold workouts to 60 min; whenever there’s a suggested adaptation it always suggests 90 min workouts. So naturally I reject them. Come to think of it I probably should accept and then pick an 60 min alternative.
That related to the bug in old plans. Contact support@trainerroad.com and they’ll lead you through the process of deleting your old plan and replacing it with a new one based around the old plans date so you won’t lose anything and it’ll adapt correctly in future.
I’m not 100% sure this is the case in all instances. I’ve seen instances of this in the past as well and have worked with support to go through the delete plan/add new plan backdated to original workaround. I recently received a struggle survey after miserably failing a threshold workout (backpedaling, stopped pedaling, lowered intensity… basically the whole nine yards and gave it an “all out” rating with “intensity” as the reason).
After doing so, AT downgraded my threshold session workouts (as expected) but also reverted my set 60m threshold session back up to 90m, so a bug may still be present.
That said, I accept the adaptions and adjust back to 60m as needed and move on. I tried skipping them, but each time I open the app (or the web calendar) it just prompts me again.
It was definitely the case in my plan but interesting that it sounds like there is another problem I set my Threshold WO to 45mins and every time the plan adapted it defaulted back to 90mins and I was doing exactly what @AussieRider suggests until I contacted support and followed their instructions. Since then when the plan has adapted its stayed a 45mins workout.
Yes, my experience DID match yours… once I contacted them and followed the rebuild instructions my 60m threshold sessions remained as such through all adaptations UNTIL I failed that last one.
I haven’t reopened my ticket yet as I wanted to see if it was a one off thing for some reason. If I fail another (hopefully not) and it happens again in the same manner, I’ll likely reach out to them again.
As a former support analyst myself, I always felt there was nothing worse than a “non-repeatable” issue that you were asked to try and troubleshoot so I always try and make it happen AGAIN before opening a ticket!
What’s worse is the issue that happens reliably, except when the developer is sitting next to you observing…
Want to share how you fixed it?
Like what I said in the up the page in reply to your OP, I deleted the old plan and added a new one with the same start date as the deleted one, nothing more complicated than that. If you contact support@trainerroad.com they’ll walk you through it and give you the dates specific to your current plan
That’s my speciality! Actually pinning a dev down and then not replicating anything! But you can bet I’ll break it again when they bugger off.
