Is TR/Wahoo Erg mode a 'soft' Erg mode?

Hey guys,
Just signed up.
set up: Bike on Wahoo Kickr. Zwift on TV with Apple TV (zwift is paired with Kickr, Climbr, Fenix6). TR wko on iphone w.ith TR app running (devices paired are Kickr and Fenix6)

Ran the wko in erg mode. Noticed that there was a good bit of variablility with watts. I’m kinda used to Erg mode holding a very tight window on prescribed watts. It was close enough but I just want to make sure I’m not missing something.

What experience do you have?

Thanks!

  • Can you post a screenshot?
  • Make absolutely certain Zwift is not set for “control”, when you aim to mix TR & Z like this.

Per this screen above, you MUST NOT have the trainer set in this box. If you do, TR & Z play “Tog-O-War” with the trainer which looks like constant up/down result in power.

gonna effort a screenshot and I did allow zwift to pair that controllable so I’ll not do that one again.

That mess will go away once you remove the control from Zwift.

Just to say my Wahoo Kickr and Zwift show “Resistance” and if you are running say Zwift as well as say Trainer Road (which is really controlling the WO) then you need to uncheck “Resistance” in Zwift otherwise they are “fighting” one another for control and you do get a variable Watt readout, not a lot but if you are used to bang on it is disconcerting. I run Zwift and TR or Trainer Day a lot and the Watts on the controlling App (TR or TD) don’t wobble at all or no more than one watt anyway. I like the visuals of Zwift while I also get the bonus of the Watts not being rounded up or down to the nearest 5 which is what happens with Zwift these days when running a Custom WO.

Can the Kickr be picking your Fenix also? I have a Fenix 7 and had had this happen to me a number of times when I wanted to ride on Zwift yet the Fenix wanted to do the workout from Garmin fitness plan.

dunno. I don’t use a HR strap so I’d like to keep it 1) synced to TR on my phone for the data and 2) synced to Zwift on my big screen so I can monitor it. But, that’s def something I’ll consider if these other work arounds don’t work around :+1:

Hey there and welcome to the TR community!

As @mcneese.chad mentioned, make sure your trainer is not set to be controllable in Zwift or you may experience that “up and down” or “soft” feeling as TR and Zwift “compete” over the trainer.

The good news is that now you actually don’t have to run both apps simultaneously – just today, we’ve officially integrated with Zwift, which means you can push your TR workouts to Zwift and run everything in one single app. When your workout is over, everything will sync back up to TR.

Here are the instructions on that if you’re interested:

Hope that helps you out – feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions!

Got this smoothed out thanks to you guys. Moot point now, tho, since we can just work thru Zwift for everything TrainerRoad related. Love it!
