Has anyone tried gym flooring that is a foam based with a rubber top layer like this?
If so:
- How has it held up?
- How do you like it?
- Do you think there is any benefit vs. solid rubber tiles?
Has anyone tried gym flooring that is a foam based with a rubber top layer like this?
If so:
It’s not great. The tiles don’t really stay together over time and eventually separate and cause gaps. I’ve tried multiple solutions but the rubber/foam just moves and stretches.
Thanks. Your experience is what I was afraid of. I previously had solid rubber tiles, and they stayed together well, but the floor was really hard / unforgiving (tiles over a hardwood floor over a concrete foundation). So I was hoping that the rubber / foam combination tiles would provide a little give / comfort. But this isn’t worth it if the tiles don’t hold together over time.
@MI-XC ya, that sweat gutr thing wouldn’t work, as you said, and exactly for the reasons @mcneese.chad explained.
I am also a super heavy sweater. I know this sounds a bit stupid, and simple, but I just bought a cheap 6 or 10 pack of terrycloth headbands and wrist bands. I put one HB on, and keep a stack of 2 - 3 of them beside me on my table. Swap them as they saturate. I usually kill 3 or 4 on a 60 min hard WO. As I say, sounds silly, but it really works well! : )
Also, know it’s already been mentioned by @mcneese.chad , but honestly, anyone who has not tried this fan really owes it to themselves to. I’ve never even run it on speed 3/3. Massively improved evaporation & cooling. And super super cheap vs the other great models I’ve seen recommended here.
[My fave for outdoor rides is the Halo headband. The gutr leaves no place for evaporation. The Halo’s gasket stops the eye drips, and the band itself absorbs the sweat, allowing it to sit there and evaporate [if your helmet has enough ventilation]. 60 - 90 min rides in 25 - 30 C, 30 - 60% humidity, near zero eye drips. I don’t get bad dripping until like >30 C, >60 - 75% humidity… when evaporation is barely possible. But the Halo wets out in about 15 - 20 mins on the trainer, and then it’s just dripping. Not enough evap to keep it from dripping, same as the regular terrycloth HBs.]
Update Paincave post house renovation:
Only planned upgrade (at this point) is a new and much better fan. Probably one of the Lasko’s. I’m also intrigued by the Curveplate rocker, but when I contacted them via their website to see if they are shipping (website still says “pre-order” on the order page) they never responded.
Improvement suggestions happily accepted
Nice and simple. You could easily go crazy w/“improvements” but it looks like you have the necessities. Might I suggest a rear fan, one that blows at you from the rear. So, that would be at least 2 Lasko fans
I’ve thought of doing 2 fans, but I’m super lucky to live on the edge of the SF fog belt so temperatures are pretty much upper 50s to lower 60s all year. So when I need extra cooling I just open the large window hiding behind the shade in the picture
Maybe a mirror or some cool posters for the blank wall? Looking vv nice as is tho!
The prior incarnation had a Western States triptych on the blank wall, but that got moved to a different room post-renovation. Sort of intentionally keeping that wall bare for the moment while figuring out if the current configuration works, or if the cube thing and the dumbbell/ kettlebell rack should swap places
Carpet in the pain cave? Bold move however I could see that feeling really nice after taking off the shoes.
renting unfortunately…
any wall mount, applied with a 90° rotation?
Most of the mounts I have seen with a 90deg mount have the mount point above the TV which would interfere with the TV mounted above
I’m not sure if it’s more complicated than it seems at the surface or if I’m overly worried about it
