Low blood pressure

I have a low resting HR and low blood pressure. Sometimes this does cause me to go light headed but I don’t think I have any other negative side effects, unless it’s related to potential thyroid/endocrine issues that I’ve been having bloods for.

The nurse made some comments about it today anbout how low it is, to mention it to my GP and to keep an eye on it but from what I have looked at in the past, there’s nothing I can do?

Is it ‘really’ an issue or should I just be glad I don’t have high BP?

Only other issue potentially is it’s really hard to get a blood draw.

Yes, basically if it is within what’s considered a normal low. Above 90/60 is considered normal.

The only meaningful drawback I’m aware of is the one you have already identified. Be careful standing up and you will probably be fine.

When I was young this was a common thing. As said above be careful standing up. This seem to pass as the season progressed.
Could have been not enough food and more than average training. Then came male menopause. That’s a whole different ball game.

Having hypotension can simply be the end result of the type of training we all do….medications and family history can also be a factor in it.

Still worth getting checked out just to be safe.

Thanks :slight_smile: in the meantime ill start drinking again, eating more salt and stop exercising, y’know just to get it back up to the healthy range :stuck_out_tongue:

I was told, and I laughed, that the potential issues with low blood pressure are dizziness, brain fog, vision issues, the increased possibility to clot, etc… Which sounds a little histrionic. I was also diagnosed with cardiac hypertrophy (enlarged heart). The two diagnoses seem to go hand-in-hand. My heart was so strong, it only had to pump a certain lower rate, and is able to push the blood out to the body so much more efficiently? It would seem that c-hypertrophy would mean higher blood pressure, but somehow no.

I was told by ‘my’ cardiologist that ‘we’ should ‘watch this’ and that I didn’t need to alter my current activities. ‘Okay, so it’s nothing?’ Well, not nothing, but at least explainable by your activity level and exertion. My resting heart rate with in the top 30’s, low 40’s. I failed a stress test because my rate didn’t go to the level it was supposed to, as my body/mind was apparently all into ‘Is this all you’ve got? Give us MORE!!’. Going native (so to speak) and eating salt and getting the BP up is something that is funny to say, but once one lets their body go, it wants to stay there. I’ve still got about 15 ‘pandemic pounds’, and my stats show it: BP in the ‘high-normal’ range, and resting heart rate in the upper 50’s. A large cost for giving in to stress and BS.

I remember standing up in the living room and coming so close to passing out. It was all of the usual symptoms, and was a little freaky when it happened at such a high level. It was fun! I didn’t sit back down after that happened as much as semi-control fell back into the chair. Fun times… At least the workup showed (at the time) that my vessels were clean, no plaque at all.

And do you feel better or worse than when you had low BP?

Low resting HR and low Blood pressure here. It has caused me problems twice. Both times I passed out and fell on my face while taking a piss in the middle of the night. Both times were warm days, where I had done a long ride, and then had evening plans that included drinks. All of this added up to problems - dehyration, alcohol and urinating can all lower your blood pressure, and that is what caused me to faint. So just be careful, or smarter than me. I now make sure I really hydrate in situations like these and am very careful when I visit the bathroom in the middle of the night.

I was carrying less weight back then so I do feel all of that and feel like I’m kinda ‘back in the hole’ from when I was quite a bit heavier. Some of my issues are depression, and the weather changes, and the medical issues I’ve dealt with this year, and so I have to work harder to feel better, and force myself to start a workout, and then nudges to finish it. I know I can get back there, but it’ll take a lot of self discipline and effort. Prior to the last medical excursion, I was getting back there. Had a lower resting heart rate, but then 2 months off bike, and other issues post-op, and now elbow issues. sigh I WOULD Like to be back there, sure…

Peeing in the middle of the night is another bane of my life lol and another story :rofl: but yeah sounds similar to me there.

My crazy grandma-in-law used to say ‘And this too shall pass’, but she was kind of eccentric in her dotage. I had a prostatectomy, and lost some bladder capacity, so peeing in the night is way more common. I find it hysterical that I was destined for ‘prostate issues’ and peeing in the night, and now have no prostate and still ended up peeing in the night. :person_shrugging:

Fwiw before I was properly fueling workouts and adding sodium, I had a big problem with this. Lots of dizziness when standing up. But no longer, maybe related?

I still get super tired from low blood pressure though. It’s annoying to sit down because I rapidly get tired and makes it hard to do daily tasks lol. But at least no more almost passing out.

Maybe so. I’ve just gone away from weighing myself, my food and tracking my calories so going to fuel a bit more off feel off the bike and make sure I do it well on the bike.

I feel you on the 2nd point too.
