Low volume vs mid-high volume masters

I’m 25yo male, I’ve been cycling for few years, more seriously for about a year. New to trainerroad and debating between low volume plan + easy riding on off days vs mid or high volume masters plan. I know the typical suggestion is the former one, but 3 days of intensity per week seems just quite a lot especially for the off-season coming ahead.

Last year my training volume has been between 8-12 hours a week with 2 days of intensity and weights at same days (usually intervals AM weights PM). During winter (and fall starting about just now) I will be riding only on trainer so even the easy days will be somewhat “structured” so I’m just wondering if TR AI will be better at adjusting my training if all the easy riding is already prescribed in the plan.

I would recommend mid volume masters plan.

Hey there and welcome to the TR community!

I think going with the Mid Volume plan would be the move if you’re already planning on doing those extra Z2 rides. It should just make things easier to have those already slotted into your plan vs. having to manually pick them out each week.

Making it a Masters plan would be great too if you’re looking for 2 days of intensity per week instead of 3.
