What would be the minimum amount of training to do per week to maintain aerobic fitness? Soon I want to do a strength phase in the gym 4 times per week. I thought about dropping the riding down to bare essentials in order to focus on the gym. What would be the best focus, sweet spot, threshold, VO2 max?

In a couple of months I’ll be shifting the focus from riding to a) strength training and b) emerging from my pain cave into the beautiful British summer. I’m putting together a plan to maintain as much cycling fitness as possible on 2 or 3 rides a week. Assuming it’s 3, here’s the first draft. Thoughts?
Week 1
Tuesday. 2 × 20 Threshold
Thursday. 2 × 13 30/15s
Saturday. 3hr steady(ish) Z2 ride
Week 2
Tuesday. 1 × 45 Sweetspot
Thursday. 10s / 30s / 60s Anaerobic Power Intervals
Saturday. 6 × 3 VO2 Max Intervals
