Make me envious. Post you Christmas bikes here

I got a lump of coal, but I bet there were quite a few new bikes under the tree. Post ‘em.

Nor a new bike, but new wheels!!

All I’ve got was an email with order confirmation. Rudolf and Co. told me off-record that they appreciate having their workload spread into January or even February.

And honestly… not every Christmas is NBD, but every NBD is Christmas.

No bike for me either, but the Roval Rapide CL II wheels I ordered mid September were finally delivered a couple of days before christmas. No photos, sorry.

Not a full new bike, but almost!

Ultegra Di2/GRX to Red / Eagle mix
A new pair of DT Swiss gravel wheels

And then finally my Quarq died after 5 years of grit, so a pair of Assioma to top it off!

Just curious - why the switch to SRAM?

(sorry for the multiple deleted posts )

Shimano just wouldn’t release the gearing I wanted for my gravel bike, 46t front with 10-52 rear. Very flat gravel where we have our summer house, so need the 46t. Then we have quite a lot of small hills where we live the rest of the time, so need more than 1:1 on the easiest gear.

Also the old Ultegra has quite a bit of free stroke which was annoying as hell when wearing gloves in winter. So often felt like I didn’t have the braking power that I wanted. All solved with the new Red levers  Best upgrade I’ve done in a long time.

Some small things I really enjoy with SRAM as well. Good integration with my Hammerhead, programmable buttons on the levers with the shifting and whatnot, also great to see gear usage!

Here was yesterdays ride for example:

Not mine, Tot got her first bike*

She had to put her badges on…

*I bought it for my niece in 2016, it got handed down to my nephew and we got it back a little while ago. But despite my efforts to buy a neutral color like green she insisted it be blue. So disassembled it the other night, painted it in the color she picked out a month back and gave it to her yesterday.

The wife definitely surprised me with this one, 2025 Cannondale Scalpel 4.

Didn’t get one for Christmas. The last new bike I got that coincided with Christmas was when I was ~7 years old, which was a very long time ago.

Not brand new, but new to me, 2017 Cervelo R3
Picked it up for an absolute bargain price the day before Christmas Day.
I swapped out the 105 groupset for the Ultegra from my 2015 Cervelo R3 which will now live on the trainer.

Merida Scultura Endurance 6000 (105 di2).

That may have been a dumb purchase for a relative newbie.

I took the last one available, which is metallic wine in colour. I’m splurging a bit on accessories to get myself set up for some cycling in the spring / summer. I’ve been exclusively indoor until now (at least for the past 10 years). So helmet, pedals, shoes, lights, bottles, inner tubes, … the list goes on.

I still own this same Crockett, also with rim brakes!

I never think it’s a mistake to buy a bike that fits you well and motivates you to want to ride it. Assuming you can afford it, I think “Man, every time I look at that bike I want to go for a ride” is far more valuable than “I saved a little money, but I wish I had something nicer”. I hate it when people knock new or slower riders for buying nice stuff. If you can afford it, and it motivates you, I’m all for putting more money into the industry!
