Make SIS BETA fuel yourself just a few pence per bottle

There’s the links for bulk powders. Got the same products myself. Arrived today so giving them a go tomorrow. Also for the next two hours there’s 35% off everything. Likely a minimum spend catch to that though.

Thanks!

I use all of these products apart from the flavourings (just use squash). Also about to start on their choc mint protein powder. I bought a big bag, so hope it’s nicer than their choc peanut…

See LHowles’ post for the links.

Thats exactly what I do, I use an old gatorade scoop and 1 scoop of each gives me 90g a bottle, I experimented with a scoop and half of each yesterday with no issues, that would be 135g a bottle.

I dropped this into the deals thread but for Beta Fuel fans I don’t see how you can top this!

Picked a bundle of stuff over the weekend, 35% has a £30 minimum spend.

Now replaced with 40% off, for the same spend… oh well

Anyone got the water content down to make gels? I have been messing with the mix of malto and fructose to make gels but can’t get the consistency down or to make it isotonic

In the US, I bought the following:

Fructose ($22 for 5 lbs shipped)
Maltodextrin ($75 for 50 lbs shipped)
Fasting Salts ($29 for 400 g shipped)

My current recipe is 75g/bottle or a little more:
50 g maltodextrin
25 g fructose
1.5 g fasting salts

Thanks for that. Good reminder to occasionally step outside Amazon!

What’s the taste like on this? Seems like it would taste like Maurten which to me is a unappealing. Have you experimented with flavoring or do you feel it’s not needed with this blend?

I have been making my own for a while, it is very cheap. I plan to try my next batch using sodium citrate instead of sodium chloride and baking soda, as I think that should improve the flavor.

Most people I know just add a NUUN/SIS tab for flavor.

The taste is pretty neutral, slightly sweet. About half the time I don’t add any flavoring to the mix, the other half I add in some Mio or other liquid flavoring to liven it up a bit or to add caffeine to my second bottle for a 3+ hour ride.

The maltodextrin isn’t sweet, and it barely thickens the water. The fructose adds sweetness but not overly so for my palate. At first I thought the mixture was too sweet but it ended up being the amount and type of liquid flavoring I was adding (a little goes a long way in a bottle of mix).

I really like the fruit punch flavor of Infinit’s Go Far Fruit Punch and if I could find that in powder form I’d probably add it to my bulk powder mix.

I’ve never had Maurten so I can’t compare there.

Maurten has a slightly sweet taste and no flavoring. It’s a little thicker than the Malto/Fructose mix and occasionally clumps which can be an odd texture. On a positive note, sometimes it creates this amazing slushee texture that is like drinking little chips of ice and I love that. I just add a lime Nuun tab for flavor and caffeine.

Aren’t those about $.50 per tablet? Seems like that defeats the purpose a little. I just bought Beta Fuel for $1.08 a sachet. It’s not usually that cheap admittedly.

True. You could just use a squirt of lime juice if you wanted.

I add a tab to Maurten too though, so for me that’s a fixed cost.

I use this for flavoring my home-made mix

The lemon and lime work well for me, and are pretty cheap.

I had a similar comment earlier - the electrolytes seem to “break the bank.” There is an inexpensive electrolyte mix at BulkPowders but they don’t ship to the US. I still haven’t found a good US-based source.
