So…
I’ve been using two bikes that I got off Facebook, a Specialized Roubaix (2012) and Felt F5 (2018)
Both of which were less than £500, both have a decent groupset (for their year) I’ve enjoyed riding them and they’ve been serving me well.
The Roubaix lives on the Turbo trainer and the Felt is my road bike.
Now next year I really want to do events. I’ve got 6 i’m eyeing up, and whilst I don’t want to race them, I’d like to get them done in a reasonable time and in reasonable comfort, so i’m considering having a posh bike. One for events or really nice days. Keep the Roubaix on the trainer, the Felt as my winter bike (or the other way round) and then have a great bike for everything else.
I’ve looked around and my budget seems to put me in team Merida, good spec, good price and seemingly good bikes
What I can’t quite decide is going for the Reacto or the Scultura.
I’ve had a Scultura in the past, and it was a lovely bike. Not tried a Reacto but an old work colleague had one and highly regarded it.
So for usage, I stick to tarmac, no real desire to enter the world of gravel (would like a gravel bike too but I think that’s just marketing doing it’s job well)
I generally consider 50miles a good ride. So that’s around the most I want to do with the new bike, although my bucket list ride is 100miles. Even if I do it only once, I’d like to do a 100 miler.
Wife and I are aiming to do a few Duathlons as a team next year too, with me on riding duty. So that’s more TT if I was going all out but I don’t think I’d get enough use out of a proper TT bike so something that’ll work well enough is good enough I think.
I’m leaning toward the Reacto, but am I going the right direction?
I’ve still got alot of weight to shift off my own body that I’m not looking at the lightest bike in the world, 1kg on the frame is not going to make a difference as yet. Which is why I think Aero is really what I’d get the most return out of.
any thoughts?
