Apologies if this has been covered before. In the middle of an upgrade of my drivetrain to Shimano. Was going to buy 175mm cranks to replace the SRAM GX 175mm crankset.
I mistakenly googled ideal crank length and found many contradictory opinions/advice/bro science.
I’m 6ft 1 with an inseam of 33. I ride a trek fuel ex mixture of long days xc , trail riding or more enduro style trails.
Crank length is a minefield. My advice would be, if you haven’t had issues with the 175mm cranks (like knee pain), are reasonably happy with them, just buy another set of 175s. They are easy to get, at 6’1 there isn’t an obvious mismatch in body length, and why change it if it ain’t broke?
Do you ever have issues with pedal strikes? If so I’d go 170 for sure. My experience with three mountain bikes running 165, 170 and 175 is I don’t notice the crank length difference but definitely notice the pedal strikes. I’m moving my XC bike to 170 as well, won’t run 175 again. I’m 6 feet, 33 inseam.
