Just built out my off season training plan and was surprised to see a threshold session every week in addition to an earlier SS workout earlier in the week. This comes as a surprise to me as in the past my off season plans were all sweet spot and endurance. Does anyone have any experience with this or has the base season research changed? I always thought the off season shouldn’t have any intensity above SS
TR has always included threshold during general base phases - which is what the new plan builder uses. If you want to keep intensity low you can add Traditional Base to your calendar by adding a plan.
Our philosophy on Base Training hasn’t changed. With the release of Plan Builder V2, we are using your training history to customise your entire Training Plan.
Threshold and Sweet Spot Workouts are an efficient way to build your oxidative capacities without the fatigue associated with high-intensity intervals. Incorporating sweet spot and threshold work in the base phase lays the groundwork for more intense training in later phases.
Yes! If you want to spend time focusing on lower intensity work before jumping into a customised Training Plan, this is a great idea!
