I regularly use the annotations feature on the calendar and have just noticed that the colour options on the website have undergone a subtle change. Before, the individual colours were somewhat brighter and lighter. Now, while the different colours remain the same (green, orange, blue, etc.), they are of a duller shade. This makes it harder to differentiate between similar colours when more than one is used on the same day - see second screenshot, where “week off” is green and “B” and “C” are blue, while in the third screenshot, “L” is red and “E” is orange.
This appears to be just the website calendar that’s affected; the desktop and Android apps are still using the brighter shades.
Sorry TR but this minor cosmetic change is a thumbs down for me. Anyone able to offer any insights into why the change was made?

Just had my first go at the new plan builder today and must say I was disappointed with what I found. I’ll wait till I give it another try to see fi I can find out how to navigate the changes but I’m as unhappy about that as you are about this.
I agree - the colours are more muted and not as clear. I much prefered the original ones.
+1 for the “Not a fan of the tweaked colors” club.
Thanks for the feedback, guys! We’ve passed this along to the team. I believe the changes were made for accesibility reasons and improving the ability to see the colours against the background. I’ll circle back when I have more information though

I do agree that the original yellow in particular was harder to see against the white, so I understand the changes applied. But the darker tones now make the delta between each color harder to distinguish. Perhaps there is a different middle ground to be had, but I don’t know all the related factors that lead to the current tones.

We’re going to explore more options to see if we can make them more distinguishable while still meeting accessibility standards. Thanks for the constructive feedback all

Yeah, from a visual perspective they’ve lost contrast (the colors don’t pop). This could be fine but lines are so thin the gray is what dominates and its hard to tell them apart. You could make the lines a lot fatter and that might help, but you’ll have to weight screen real estate trade-offs.

I’m liking the full width band and return to the old colors.

Much better. Well played TR. They’re still the new muted colours but they’re much easier to see and differentiate. Thank you @SarahLaverty. Now they just need to fix the weird jumping on the web calendar that occurs every time you start scrolling

I’ll pass this onto the team

Hmm what browser are you on? Have you tried other browsers? Has this been a persistent issue for you?
I’m going to outline some steps that can help website and device performance. Can you give them a shot and let me know if they help?
-
First, let’s restart your computer. This way, we’re making sure that no errors are happening due to the device being on for a long time.
-
Try closing down other tabs and any apps running in the background.
-
Make sure you have a strong connection to the internet. Have you tried using a different internet service?
-
Have you tried on a different device?
-
Can you try Try a Hard Refresh - We can do this by loading up the webpage, and pressing:
- Ctrl F5 (for Windows and Linux)
- Command ⌘ + Shift + R (for Mac)
- Let’s have you try clearing your browser cache - The browser cache contains files that TrainerRoad’s website uses to function. In a few rare cases, we’ve found that these files can get corrupted. Let’s try clearing them, to see if we get better results for you.
For Google Chrome:
-
Select the three dot menu in the top-right > “Settings” > “Advanced” > “Clear browsing data…“.
-
Select the period of time you wish to delete cached information using the “Clear the following items from” drop down menu. From there, you can choose “Cached images and files“.
-
Select the “Clear browsing data” button, and Chrome will clear your cache.
For Safari:
-
Click on the Safari drop-down menu and select Preferences.
-
Click the Advanced tab. Select the Show Develop menu in menu bar checkbox and close the Preferences window.
-
Select the Develop drop-down menu. Click Empty Cache.
For Firefox:
-
Click the three bar menu button and select Options.
-
Select the Privacy & Security panel.
-
In the Cookies and Site Data section, click Clear Data….
-
Remove the check mark in front of Cookies and Site Data
-
With Cached Web Content check marked, click the Clear button.
For Microsoft Edge:
-
Click on the. menu button situated in the upper right corner.
-
Click on Settings.
-
Under Clear browsing data, click on Choose what to clear.
-
Check the boxes next to Cached data and files.
-
Click on Clear.
Gives these steps a shot and let me know how you get on. As always, if you have any questions, shoot them this way
.
Agreed. It’s too bold now. Looks like a blocking, not a note.

As a long time calendar jumper sufferer (with it covered well in another post I can find if necessary), it is still acting up as of yesterday.
It was acknowledged by TR and I was not asked to provide more info at that time.

I saw that thread. Thanks @mcneese.chad

We are working on some Calendar updates that should solve the issue you are running into. Bear with us.
The steps above could help, so if anyone is running into this issue and haven’t tried those steps yet, it would be a good idea

Thanks for the feedback. As I mentioned, the colours we had previously didn’t meet the accessibility standard so introducing these new colours increases the amount of people able to utilise this feature. It is important to us that as many people as possible can enjoy all of these small but useful features in TrainerRoad.
@SarahLaverty - thanks for the suggestions. I’ve tried / checked all of them (both today and on a regular basis for many months now) but to no avail.
Here’s the weirdness I’ve established today: Whenever I add an annotation and return to the calendar, the calendar jumps when I start scrolling. After that initial scroll, it’s ok. However, if, during the same browsing session, I delete the annotation and then add a new one, the calendar jumps again when I start scrolling. Adding 2-3 new annotations during the same session also causes the calendar to jump. After that, it seems OK.
My default browser is Brave. I have it set to clear the cache on exit but I also do additional manual cleans regularly. I have disabled the Brave Shields feature (tracker, cookie, fingerprinting blocker). I’ve also tried the above annotation experiment on Microsoft Edge and encountered the same issues.
Thanks for sharing and trying those steps. This is useful to know. I’ll pass this onto the team.
Just out of curiosity, have you tried on Google Chrome or Firefox?
Sure thing! I think the whole site/webapp UX could use a nice facelift, for this specific calendar notes, maybe keep more color/layout options?
It sounds very simple however it’s actually a really difficult balance between being able to offer a lot of colors and having them all be individually legible for people with limited vision.
