Specialized is in the process of releasing a new high end road shoe. It is called “Ares” and apparently is their most power efficient and ergonomic shoe ever. For the very steep price of €419 (£399) it is not lighter or stiffer than their S-Works 7, but features the new Li2 BOA dials and also optimized the material underneath using Dyneema, to relief pressure.
Don’t know if this matters to you or not, but I think it looks interesting. Especially the sock like construction reminds of a modern football boot.
Well he would say that wouldn’t he .
“these overpriced instruments of pain” doesn’t pay the bills
The face says to me “eh these are ugly but as long as the checks keep clearing…”
I think they look pretty good for road shoes but this cracked me up.
Do people still buy Sidi? I remember them being all the hotness for ‘high end’ road shoes like a decade ago; I know they still make them, but it seems like younger riders (<30) have sorta ignored them.
You got that wrong. Younger riders are <33.
I don’t like the look of them and they are rather heavy… also I am a sucker Rapha and Specialized, so very biased
I buy sidi, but I’m 42. I get contrasting dials and straps to make them pop more. I think its clear that young people have a poorly developed sense or appreciation of aesthetics.
EDIT: Actually deleted, don’t wanna distract from the Ares, lol.
I just saw the front quarter angle of the shoe from CyclingNews. That is one fugly shoe. The side angle shot and the shot from below with Julian Alaphilippe don’t do its fuglyness justice. And the all white, there’s no other color to contrast with the white to make them both pop.
Kids today! Get off my lawn! I don’t blame people for having bad taste, but I do judge them. lol. Don’t get me started on black shoes and black socks. Hurrumph.
Bike kit is getting so ridiculously expensive…$450 for shoes? hard pass, thanks.
At least it is $250 cheaper than the EXOS99…
Do they make special edition for kids to match their carbon hotwalk bikes?
Makes no sense man!
These weigh 220g, that‘s far too heavy for a toddler to snag a local KOM…
But man, kids w/kg is insane and they are more aero than Evenepoel. Those shoes in kids sizing will be incredibly light… when you combine these things no KOM would be safe.
These are supposed to be the ‘sprinter shoe’. The Exos are the super light climber shoe. I’m sure in 3 years we’ll get ‘the one shoe to rule them all’.
Yep, they look awful.
Curious on why they aren’t transparent on how they are 1s (1%) faster. They beat the aero horse to death and I can’t imagine those being more aero than the sub6’s.
Ugly and Pricey no thanks
