Funny. I did a sweet-spot workout on Tuesday, and going into the headwind was far easier to hit power targets than with the tailwind. At one point I was going ~28 mph and only putting out about 50% FTP when I should have been doing ~90%. I almost ALWAYS prefer to try to hit my power targets with the headwind, and have the rest interval with the tailwind, but the 12ā work intervals/6ā rest intervals didnāt really allow for that for all three efforts.
Same here, too. I think there are a handful of nearby farmers that wonder why the weird guy in spandex is riding back and forth on their stretch of road.
Endurance bike, if needed, sitting up from time-to-time to catch wind. Here is one:
Wind SSW 13mph gusting 20mph. 5 intervals about 12 minutes each, easier to see if TR would let me control averaging/smoothing. Blue /aqua line is speed, fair bit of time 23-28mph.
Some caveats: the first two intervals I dropped off the back and was solo going South and West, fighting crosswinds. The 3rd interval is a mix of cross and tailwinds. The 4th and 5th intervals we are coming back into town and dealing with cars, sharp turns, and stop lights.
Ok, Iāll call it even on that ride and say almost no difference hitting power targets between headwind / tailwind.
@dhellman how was the Auburn crit? You raced later in the day IIRC.
After reviewing this page, Iām optimistic that TR would be working on an integration with both Wahoo & Garmin head units. Obviously, we donāt know what kind of deal TP has worked out with Wahoo that might see this as a conflict of interest, but it would be a huge miss if they only released this on one device.
Having read all o Frye comments above, I really canāt see that TR will be doing anything with TP - the most recent releases and updates have mainly been providing functionality that TP Premium provides in one way or another, but tailored to the TR fraternity.
As for what it ācouldā be, Iāve absolutely no idea, but Iām excited to find outā¦
Yeah, looks fairly familiar.
Yellow is cadence. I was trying to keep a minimum rpm of 85 rpm, but that was almost impossible with the tailwindāI had to just keep bumping into a higher gear to try to achieve power. You probably have a more unlimited stretch of road than I doāI have a ~4.5 mile stretch between a stoplight and a stop sign. I can keep going, particularly after the stop sign, but I generally prefer to keep it within that stretch. @cendres, I frequently wonder about what the farmers think about me as wellā¦ or the people who are waiting for the bus along this same stretch. We have a lot of cyclists out here, and theyāre prevalent on this road, but usually theyāre just going one way, not out and back and out and back and out and backā¦
@bbarrera, even though I was registered for Auburn, I didnāt do it. I won the Red Kite omnium for my category last year, and the prize was free entry for the entire year this year. I couldnāt make Auburn because itās 3+ hours away and I couldnāt justify the 6 hours of driving for a 40 min crit, plus I had personal obligations that day as well. And now Red Kite is no longer going to be USAC/NCNCA, so itās highly unlikely Iāll do any others.
I wonder if we will see this new feature released with a possible new Garmin 530. IT would make sense that a new garmin would be released in Sea Otter and include TR integration as part of the new features.
would be nice to see TR embrace outdoors and over time offer more integration with head units. Looking forward to episode 200!
@dhellman @bbarrera
Personally headwind is easierā¦ I run 50/34 w/12-25 in back on the roadie yeah donāt ask but it works.
With tailwind I could spin out on light downhills but usually sit up in that case to get as much wind as possibleā¦ again obviously you need to have a stretch of road to do this which is tough lol
Awesome. Am I gonna need to upgrade my old school Edge 520 for this?
I wouldnāt discount the Wahoo being linked. They do that well with many third party sites. Some of which āStrava, Best Bike Splitā etc are often mentioned on the podcast. Just saying.
If this is about loading workouts, most likely not.
If this is it, then it is time to replace my 500 (such a perfect product).
Head unit integration would be awesomeā¦but maybe itās the simple approachā¦remember this thread:
Iāll put my money down on the āprint and tape to barā solution as step 1. Then later look for head unit integration.
Software sounds easy, but is actually hard to deliver.
@Nate_Pearson keeps on trolling, see his screenshot in strava today lol
hmm, isnāt that using TR app as-is? Spin bike with his Garmin Vector3 pedals on it, right? Our gym has Stages bikes with left-only power meters, and I can use TR app as-is to do workouts.
The last screenshot. It has ādo insideā ādo outsideā buttons.
Yeah but the app has the ride outside option!
Doh! Hand me another cup or three of coffee
Donāt think Iāll be replacing my bolt (assuming itās not supported), but may use it to justify a new Garmin watch if it trainerroad worked with it via iq
