Newb Winter Training Advice

Question at hand: What training plan / volume to choose over winter months to train for early spring racing?

Context: I’m new to structured training, only been at it for 3 weeks. I’m running a mid-volume training plan for a century ride in early November. In late January, I’ll be on international vacation where I’ll do an intense 3-day hike, and not be able to train for a couple of weeks. This hike will require additional training to build up to being able to carry 50+ lbs for 14ish miles 3 days in a row. So I anticipate Nov - Jan to be eaten up by a lot of walking/hiking/strength training.

That being said, I would still like to maintain some kind of fitness on the bike and attempt local crit races for the first time next spring.

Following my century in November, how should I plan my training from November - January, then coming home from holiday and getting back into a new training plan?

I’d just follow plan builder, put in your event, and let it adapt as you move along. You can schedule in vacation time.

@NateP is spot on here! :raised_hands:

The best way to train for the spring is with Plan Builder.

Feed it as much info as you can and it will generate a solid plan for you to follow. :robot:

Since we’ve started supporting new sport types with Activity Sync, those hikes will actually sync over to TR if you have your Strava, Garmin, etc. synced to TrainerRoad, and we’ll use that data to adjust your training plan on the fly!
