Official World Wide Disaster 2020 Thread!

Here it is - my very first Disaster Day! Disaster -2. Harder than I thought, but maybe because during my first 10 minute below threshold, my trainer was set too tight on the wheel -oops, so probably ten minutes above threshold. Still got it done! Set some PRs in the process. Funny to see my death approaching in the second 10 minute Threshold interval as you can see my HR just kept going down until it disappeared (darn Tickr). The final sprints, TR jsut doenst react fast enough in Virtual Power (Had Rouvy same time and power was around 400W).

Nicely done and congrats to those who’ve done it.

I won’t be doing Disaster, but have scheduled in Blood +2 for my lunch break on 22nd as an early Xmas present to my legs.

Gonna be hard with no VO2 work done for ages.

Right on!

I did the 4 hour one this morning. Wasn’t as hard as I’d expected (especially after an FTP jump earlier in the week).
Set up a smorgasbord of snacks next to the turbo!
I felt the 4 x 10 mins blocks and coming off of the fireworks the most.
I also put a mini pillow on the saddle between a couple of the main blocks!

Awesome! Fireworks is generally agreed to be the hardest part, so no surprise there!

Made the last minute decision to give my first Disaster a go, since the weather was not so great here this morning.

It was actually quite a bit easier than I expected! The only other trainer rides I’ve done >90 minutes have been endurance rides and I found them really difficult. I think the variety of intervals in Disaster actually kept me sort of entertained, which made it feel easier.

Hardest part was the 10 minutes at 102%, but the Z2 criss-cross intervals gave me plenty of time to recover.

Maybe next year I’ll attempt the full Disaster but can’t even imagine a four hour trainer ride right now. Seriously impressed by those that have done it!

I was gonna do Disaster, but got roped into the BMTR Flat 100 on Zwift w/ some buddies…I shoulda done Disaster. We just missed going under the 4 hour mark and my TSS was 295. Disaster would have been easier.

Got out of bed fatigued and knew I was in for it.

  1. Struggled through the threshold intervals.
  2. Left leg cramped during the Z2.
  3. Right leg cramped during the VO2 and had to call it quits.

Haven’t had cramping issues all year. I’d simply attribute it to the difficulty of the workout. Will have to try again another day.

You can’t win every day, but you still saddled up and gave it the GO. Props!

Disaster completed. The Sweet Spot plus Fireworks was so brutal. This was fun! Glad to be a part of it. I tagged Nate in an Instagram Story this morning saying Happy Disaster Day! His response…”y tho?” :joy::joy:

Thanks for setting this up and I look forward to next one!

Done on the TT rig for extra spice. The explosions in fireworks were very hard so back pedalled alternate peaks.
