***This topic was also introduced in 2021, as a Garmin-specific question.
How does one start an unstructured ride, then trigger the start of the TR outdoor workout, without stopping/starting/creating a new ride on the unit?
I like to pedal out to areas that lend themselves to the workout profile or be interrupted by traffic signals or stop signs. I’d like to be able to keep the whole ride together, as one.
Have you read this. I don’t have a wahoo unit so I’m not sure it would work the same.

I like to do the same thing you do when doing workouts outside. Here’s how I do it with my Wahoo:
- Make sure you’ve set up Outside Workouts with TR
- Sync your Planned Workouts on your Wahoo head unit/in your Wahoo app (I like to do this before I leave for my ride – especially if I’m going to be doing my intervals in the middle of nowhere (no phone service))
- Start your ride as you normally would
- Once you arrive at the stretch of road where you’ll be doing your workout, load up your Planned Workout by using your Wahoo head unit or your Wahoo app
- Your workout should now be on your Wahoo head unit and your ride will continue to record
- When your workout is over, you can continue to record your ride as you head home
Hope this helps – feel free to let me know if you need any clarification on those points. Most of the specific instructions for syncing/loading workouts should be in the links I posted above.

Thanks! I’ll give this a try. To this point, I have only ever tried to start an outside TR workout from the outset, when the plan pops up on the head unit (ROAM) from the start.
I have been reluctant to tinker with it on my own, for fear of losing my ride data, through some clumsy sequence - - and fat fingers.
