Haven’t watched it yet, but markups look promising

Well worth a listen but be prepared to be humbled by the numbers

yes his z2 easy riding power is absolutely amazing, at around 290- 300 watts… for 5 hours… I am sure there are others in the world tour with these power numbers but definitely he is a unique case. I wonder what Jonas’ similar power is… I bet when at full form pretty similar as is Roglic’s. These guys are hitting numbers most mortals could hardly imagine.

Also the diss on Shimano power meters was interesting… we have known for quite some time per @GPLama and @dcrainmaker who have known that Shimano power meters are not working. But it surprises me that the top rider in the world is using something that is almost a random number generator… he could ride anything he would want I would have thought or at the least Someone would solve the problem just for him. Lots of cases of off brand equipment in use in the peloton. This is a story in a story for sure. Why is he using substandard equipment if power meters are important. Maybe that is why he is so dedicated to HR data.

I haven’t listened, but when he talks Z2 is he talking 3 zone model?

When at home in SLO or at a camp in Calpe → looong steady Z2

When in Monaco loooong steady Z2 is not feasible. What does he do? He “substitutes” loooong Z2 with the climbs at higher intensity. OMG, he’s doing tempo/sweetspot training as a surrogate :astonished:

I predict a new trend, tempo/SST as a surrogate for time crunched athletes … oh wait

Assuming his FTP is around 450, 300 watts would be .66 IF for him…

Except he said his max weight is 149lbs (68kg) n the offseason and if I’m remembering correctly closer to 64 / 65kg in-season, so no way is his threshold 450 watts. At max it’s probably 390

That’s ok. It’s when your “old” like me, then it really hurts. @_*

I bet it’s over 400. He did 7w/kg for how long at the Tour this year?

If so …. :see_no_evil::flushed::thinking:

Me too, I’d say 450 peak and 430ish overall

I’ll watch this later, when I’m not at work, but I really hope this is not another person saying how Tadej does so well because he spends a majority of his time doing Z2 rides. Every time a cyclist comes along, and does something that seems “super human”, there’s always some “magical” way they are training that allows them to be head and shoulders above all the other riders in the pro peloton. Not just better, but excel at almost any type of cycling (time trialing, mountains, one day classics, etc…).

I’m not accusing anyone of anything but I have to keep an open mind of suspicion when today’s riders can ride at 7W/KG compared to riders of the past, who were doped to the max, and beat the doped rider’s times up the mountains.

I suspect he is contracted to ride the equipment the team/sponsors supply. He might be the almighty Pog, but he’s still just an employee.

The team (and 99.99% of people who work for Shimano) must be frustrated as hell at that meter. It’s a potato. We know it. THEY know it. Pogdawg just dumped on it from a great height… and in the same week Remco had one shitte itself in the worlds ITT.

Shimano had to the opportunity to design the 9100/8200 series crank from the ground-up as a power meter. They choose to keep it as an afterthought lick-and-stick that didn’t work for ANYONE with their previous generation cranks.

In some distant past (and maybe not that long ago) riders even rode rebadged frames… more recently the Castelli Gabba was being sold with a black marker as a wink- to pros buying them and colouring over the logos… so it still baffles me in this case they could not find a way to solve this issue so that he had a reliable power meter on his bike… but as you say it could very well be that it was a strongly worded contract and he is a guinea pig.

nope, he actually said that when he is riding for long (up to 5h) 290- 300, though he says if he rides 320- 340 (for up to 5 h) he feels it the next day… I doubt he will disclose his TP but it has to be pretty good.

Right. The same rules apply here. 340 would be .75 IF which is still zone 2 for a 450-watt FTP. If he’s averaging 340 for for 5 hours, that’s likely still high zone 2 which is over 5 w/kg. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I think he mentioned he works off hr more that the watts and vam.

According to some back calculations off of his wahoo his ftp is around 415w.

Interestingly on his tt bike at the TDF he was rocking an srm pm.
It seems to confirm he doesn’t really need accurate data during other stages at the tour :joy:
