What tires are best for Pisgah Stage Race?

Last year I ran 2.4 maxxis rekon 3C front and 2.35 Ikon rear. We had a rainy day on Pilot Mt. so I switched the front to a 2.35 forekaster (old ver). Never had any issues, and saw quite a few others with similar. If I could do it over maybe I’d go rekon race f and r or just rear.

How was your race? I am thinking about doing it in 2025. Do they do the same route every year or do they change it up?

I hope the area has rebounded from Helene by then. Pisgah 555 was my A race this fall and had to cancel because the area is completely devastated. The pictures remind me of what the Gulf Coast looked like after Hurricane Katrina. It took years for our area to build back.

Fingers crossed that they rebound quickly. We visited for the first time this past summer and completely fell in love with the area.

They *were planning to change stage one and leave the rest the same. The region is a genuine disaster right now and rebuilding trails will be lower on the to do list. It would be a safe assumption that IF they can do it there is likely to be some route changes.

That said if they do, it’s a super fun time if you like technical riding and suffering. I’m on the fence about it next year but that’s only because of vacation time.

Very good point about the current recovery efforts in the area. It may be a long process.

I spoke to the promotor a month ago. They’re a go as of now for April '25. At least 1 of the routes is being re-done, post-storm. Im signed up for 5-day after having to bail last year. Excited to get up there!

I’m signed up for the 3 day version for 2025. The trails are in great shape for what they’ve been through, Pisgah area SORBA put a ton of hours into clearing everything. I’d definitely recommend giving them a thank you donation if you’re racing, I have no affiliation beyond making my own donations.

I was in Pisgah about 8 weeks ago and they have done an amazing job clearing the most popular trails. Once the stage race date arrives, I believe they will have it looking great.

DuPont State Park got hit pretty bad by Helene and is still dealing with a lot of repair work (as of 8 weeks ago).
