I just completed a 100 mile gravel race…after a planned recovery week, I have 13 weeks to my next event, a 30 mile MTB race. I used plan builder to schedule my next training block (Master’s Plans) and it has 4 weeks of General Base, 5 weeks of Sustained Power Build and just 4 weeks of Specialty Phase…given my current fitness level (very good…met all my targets/goals for the gravel event) and switch to a new type of racing, wouldn’t I be better off doing the last 5 weeks of SPB followed by the full 8 weeks of the Speciality phase? TIA!
Nice job completing that race!
Part of how Plan Builder selects your training phases depends on the Experience Level you choose when creating a plan. Depending on your Experience Level, Plan Builder may prioritize one phase of training (such as Base) over another. Less experienced riders, for example, often benefit from more Base training, while more experienced riders with a bigger existing base often benefit from extra Build/Specialty training.
The choice is ultimately yours, though! If you’re feeling good and you think you’d be better off with more Build/Specialty right now, you could certainly make those changes.
The following article gives you some options when it comes to training between target events:
Hope this info helps – feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions!
So based on the article you attached, I would like to add the first 4 weeks of Master’s SPB to my calendar followed by 8 weeks of Master’s Specialty Phase…but I keep getting the “overlapping” plans error message…is there a hack to get around this without having to manually enter each SPB workout?! Thanks!
