We now have the option to schedule solo and group rides, which adapt with plan builder.
Say now I have a workout planned for next Saturday. I want to swap that for a group ride instead. The only way I know to get plan builder to incorporate this change is to schedule the group ride as a C race. Plan builder adapts, removing the scheduled group ride.
Is this a sane way to go about this? Is there a better way?
The best way to work with a “I sometimes go to the Saturday group ride” is to change that Saturday to the appropriate difficulty. For example, if it is a hard group ride, make sure that is an interval day. If it is easy group ride, very few (if any) group rides fall into this category, make it an endurance day.
Then DO NOT associate the workout with the group ride, even if the TSS and duration is similar. Just leave the workout incomplete. This will keep you on your proper training cycle, and not give you too many hard days in a row.
While your progression levels won’t go up with this ride, you will either gain fitness or some mental sanity from this ride and that, a lot of the times, is worth the trade off.
