Greetings. Im a newbie in Trainerroad. Ive been riding bicycle for the past 8 months. Before trainnerroad, i have no proper training plan or sorts. My first proper outdoor ride was with a local cycling club and the “feeling” was intense. Almost everyday/or every other day, there will rides 35Km+ at average 30kmh and some with elevation 1000m. For noobs like me at first it was intense, its like almost “all out every ride”
My question is, ive just subscribed to TrainerRoad plan because I wanna improve myself and having a proper structured workout plan seems the way to go, however im just into week 3 of the training plan, the workout seems “light” compare to what ive done, is that normal? Is that how its supposed to do? Should i feel “exhausted” after each workout? Sorry for the bad english
No, every workout should not kill you. To build your aerobic engine you need lots of low intensity work. Once or twice a week, you need a hard workout. Don’t worry, the plans will progress and get harder and harder.
Welcome! A lot of times your first ramp test will be a little weaker than what you are actually capable of simply because it’s new, so the workout intensity may not match your fitness. Don’t worry, it will get corrected when you take another ramp test.
You may not feel completely trashed after each workout, but keep in mind that you will be accumulating fatigue over the (usually) 3 weeks of work before a recovery week. It really depends on what plan you are doing. I’m doing traditional base now, and the rides are pretty “easy”. Short Power Build absolutely destroyed me in the third week.
To echo what everyone else has said, it might be easy now but probably will not be in a few weeks.
When I started using TrainerRoad a few years ago I found the first workouts in SSB LV1 easy and was wondering the same thing until the accumulated stress and harder workouts caught up with me and I was really missing the easier ones.
Also another possibility is you under performed on your FTP test . You could either retest, manually bump your FTP a little bit or just finish the block with it where it is now. If you are new to structured training a slightly to low FTP probability isn’t a bad thing
Thank you guys for the clarification. Sometimes i feel ‘guilty’ because i used to cycle ‘all out’ most of the time last time. My first time on structured workout. We’ll see what happen in the next 2 weeks (next ramp test). Thanks alot
Thanks for this question and the answers. I just finished my 3rd week too and feel very light and easy. I was wondering if it was off or if I should bump up my days of training. I think I’ll stay put where I am and keep enjoying the progression.
