Polar H10 elastic band gripe

Why in the world did Polar design their H10 elastic band connector location so that one cannot fasten it in front? Fastening it and then having to rotate it around one’s chest to properly orient the contact pads and sensor will undoubtedly wear out the strap more rapidly as will rotating it in order to unclip and remove it. No other manufacturer orients their HR strap fastener similarly.

Does it have more electrodes around the circumference of the band? That’s the only excuse I can come up with. Even Garmin’s has the hook on the right side, which is awkward, but far better than what you describe. I’ve been able to unhook it without spinning it around, but anyway…

Wahoo straps unsnap in the center, and every single one will eventually break at that spot if the user doesn’t undo both sides and rinse them off after use. In the long run the H10 strap will last longer.

Also the side closure allows for a much longer contact patch.

You’ll be ok

Why do you need to rotate it? I can fasten/unfasten mine without having to rotate.

I need to rotate it in order to orient the snap-on sensor unit at the front and the contact patches on my chest.

Putting on my polar strap (place HRM at center of chest, reach behind, clip together in the back), is about 10x easier than putting on most of my sports bras.

Yeah i just put it on with the sensor in the middle where it should be. The clip is under my armpit - easily reachable - am i doing it wrong

My Garmin Pro is the same…

This seems like a thread looking for a problem. The buckle lands on my ribs. I have no problem fastening it in it’s proper position.

Defo one for the unpopular opinions thread

The clip on mine ends up in the middle of my back with the sensor mid-chest.

Clip on mine is just to side and can clip in place.

My clip is on the back of my left lat and I can reach it pretty easy.

I’d assume the OP must have a pretty small chest/back/frame so it has to be shortened extensively, thus placing the clip on the back.

I have a hard time believing the rotation will wear anything out prematurely.

Has this happened where it’s prematurely worn out, or are you just expecting it to?

PSA - you don’t have to use the Polar strap. Find one with two snaps that with a clasp / clip you prefer and use that.

Yes, I have an old Garmin strap that works but the snap receivers are recessed so the Polar unit doesn’t snap in perfectly. The Wahoo strap (snap receivers on each end) will not work because of the recessed Polar snaps.

Any recommendations for replacement H10 straps?

I haven’t had any problems with cheap noname bands on amazon. Just make sure it’s one of the polar compatible ones (with the extra raised contacts).

Thanks and good suggestion.

I just bought the heartrate monitor USA strap on Amazon for $14. Reviews were solid and it cost 1/3rd the amount of an original Polar. The clasp doesn’t look as nice though. I’m sure it will be fine.

Edit: I was going to buy the red Polar strap on Amazon but nowhere is the size listed. A few of the reviews said that the strap seemed small or the regular M-XXL size wasn’t sent. Weird that Polar lists no sizes on Amazon even though they come in three sizes. I didn’t want to buy the Polar strap and then have to return it.
