Post-race weight gain

I don’t recall anything being abnormal, but admittedly, I didn’t detail track things. I can just say it wasn’t off of norm by some extreme.

Quick update that I peed 3 times last night (very unusual for me) and 3 of those 6 extra pounds have fallen off. This is 4 nights post-race, with my peak weight occurring 3 nights post race. And by all means, Leadville is the most extreme race I’ve ever done.

I see this as well. I always attributed it to increase in plasma volume but no idea if that would be enough to make up the 6-7 lbs.

This is a good question. However, it’s to do with recovery vs. adaptation, intra- and multi-day competitions vs. training, and probably more.

I know I’ve seen plenty of other threads and discussions around it if you want to look into it more.

It could be due to inflamation

For anyone who still cares about this subject, I stepped on the scale this morning and have returned to my pre-race weight, 5 days after my event. Obviously, Leadville is a big event that puts a lot of stress on the body, so this far outpaces any other race/event I’ve done. Now I know!

Solid. It took me almost three weeks to get back to my pre-race weight. Cheers

The first 100 mile MTB race I did I got super dehydrated. My body rebounded and I retained water like crazy; packed on 10 extra pounds and caused my feet to blister. So even though you hydrated well, I’d assume you still dehydrated some, and this is your bodies response.
