I am in the market for a power meter for my Mountain Bike. I am looking for suggestions on what people have, what they like, what they would buy now? I don’t have any road or gravel bikes, so I don’t have to worry about that.
Thanks.

I have a Stage left crank on my hard tail and it’s fine.
I have a Power2Max on my XCM bike and it’s been solid. I did NOT opt for the enhanced package and that’s just fine. I can even go as low as a 30t on the front with it. 104 BCD. Battery is pretty big for a coin and lasts about 2 years.
Got a new mtb last summer and put a Sigeyi ($350) spider power meter on it. Previous mtb had a Raceface spindle PM (single side) on it. The Sigeyi works great and differs from my Assioma Duo pedals by only a few Watts. Suggest checking out PMs at PowerMeterCity. They carry about every PM out there as well as cranks, chain rings, etc. Great tech support. https://powermetercity.com/
Those Sigeyi sure look(ed) interesting. They are now $450 due to new tariffs. Assiomas look more appealing right now.
I’ve been thinking about doing one of the spider pms, but am reluctant, wondering if I buy a version with 3-bolt attachment to the DUB crank arm, how long is that 3-bolt configuration going to be around/standard. This bike is 4 yo, so I wonder what the chances are that the cranks of the next one will match.
Good point on 3 vs 8 bolt crank arms. I’ve got 3 bolt on my mtbs, 8 bolt on my gravel bike, and no-bolt on the road bike. MTB-wise, I figure I can move the whole crank over to my next bike if, for some reason SRAM switches to 8 bolt on mtb cranks. Pedal PMs are good because they’re future-proof crank-wise, and fairly easy to move between bikes if that’s a consideration.
The Sigeyi are already up to $450! Damn…
I’ve been using the Assioma Pro MX for a few months. I swap them back and forth between my XC Hardtail and my trail bike, and they’ve been absolutely flawless. Judging by the number of times I’ve pedal struck them, they’re also bombproof
I have a 4iiii XT, works fine.
Would also consider Assioma Pro MX pedals and Power2Max/Rotor InSpider but this all depends on your current BB / crank / pedal preferences and any other Mtbs.
I have looked at 4iiii before. I will be looking at the other suggestions. Thank guys for your help.
I would definitely vote for the Assioma MX-2s. Absolutely fantastic.
Also have Assioma - single sided. So far so good. Pretty much set and forget.
If you have a bike that can support a 55mm Dub Wide Chainline, the SRAM X0 Crankset w/ Spindle based power meter for $400 is pretty appealing.
I really wish they would sell it for 52mm chainelines, so I could throw it on my non-UDH bike.
Big fan of SRAM/Quarg, still have a dzero that is pushing ~8 years old and working great (now on my trail bike). Recently added a xxsl powermeter crank to my new Epic. If just trying to get ballpark power, the single-sided spindle stuff is pretty awesome for the $. If you plan to keep it for many years and value double sided and/or balance, hard to go wrong with quarg spider based power.
I know for my SRAM xxsl crank, they have multiple ring offset choices the allow 55 or 52mm chainline. Not sure if that’s an option for what you are running, but maybe.
I wear EE width shoes (no plans to go clipless, so power pedals won’t work, as far as I’ve found), and ride a Pivot (SuperBoost), just to complicate things. So, I have a Pressfit BB92 (DUB) and it came with a 3mm offset direct mount ring. And the description of the power2max NG SRAM mtb pm says " Please note this Boost version can also fit Super Boost bikes where you are replacing a 3 mm direct mount chainring," so I assume that means my BB is just standard width for boost spacing, and the difference to get to SuperBoost is made up with the 3mm offset ring and the crank spacers (and that I’d need a 3mm offset ring on this power2max pm, too)?
I have a quark with my SRAM T Transmission but I second P2Max which was great for a few years previosly, Assioma would probbaly do the job also.
I ride an Ibis Ripmo V2 with XT Cranks and Pedals. I am a Shimano man at heart and have been for 30+ years. I am just not sure that a Quark would work very well with my Shimano transmission.
Thanks grwolf. I got a good laugh.
If you descend with your left foot forward, DONT buy a single sided left crank arm PM…youll get hella power spikes if you do.
