Hi there!
New to TR, signed up since I wanted to improve my general performance over the winter.
I (27M, 67 kg) recently got an 20 min output on the Mont Ventoux of 256W, power meter was calibrated correctly.
After syncing my Garmin and Strava activities, TR put me at an FTP of 160W, which sounds way too low.
This means that my ramp test will only go up to 220W in its final interval.
Two questions regarding that:
Does the number of intervals get extended automatically if I have not hit my breaking point yet?
Is there an ideal W/kg to start your ramp test at? I have completed roughly 8 ramp tests in Zwift, but I remember my first one took a while to complete since it starts pretty low on the wattage-scale. Or should I just go with the low FTP-estimate TR gave me and see from there?
Yep, TR ramp test will keep adding intervals until you are exhausted.
Anyway, @Helvellyn is right: from your 20min effort, just set FTP manually in TR profile. After that, if you follow generated plan, adaptive training (AT) with progression levels (PL) will dial in productive and long term sustainable workouts for you in week or two.
As mentioned above, if you’ve done an FTP assessment recently, you shouldn’t need to do the Ramp Test. You can go to your Rider Information page and manually enter your FTP there.
If you still have a Ramp Test on your TR Calendar, you can use TrainNow to sub in a workout for that day instead.
Hope this helps – feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!
