Rapha Core Bibs advice and measurement request

I have a bunch of “ok” bibs (like fine for <90 mins) but my 2 pair of “good” bibs are due for the trash. I was very uncomfortable in them over the weekend and there’s no way I trust them for a 5 hr gravel ride planned this weekend.

Local options are kind of limited, but I have an REI ~40 mins away and they have Rapha Core bibs in my size. I’ve seen mixed reviews online which I guess is expected since fit can be so individual. I figured I’d ask here if anyone has experience and if they’re worth a shot.

If anyone has a pair handy too…any chance you could measure the chamois at the widest part? My sitbones measure ~ 130mm and I ride a 155mm saddle. I’ve tried Castelli and Voler bibs before (briefly!) and found the chamois too narrow. I’ve had good luck with Pactimo chamois though since they seem a bit wider.

Thank you!!

I have been a big fan of Rapha bibs for a long time (they’re all I use). However, IMO, all of the newer models have recycled materials that aren’t nearly as comfortable as the ones that were made 5 years ago. I’m lucky because I bought several of the old model when they were changing over, but I don’t know what I will buy the next time I need bibs. Maybe Veloccio.

Personally, I find the Core model is also uncomfortable in the crotch. I own a pair, but I only wear them as a last resort. Make sure you try them on to see if you feel they’re comfortable. The widest part of the Core chamois measures just over 20cm on my Size L bibs. It’s a very comfortable chamois for me. Mine are a few years old, so can’t guarantee the new ones are the same.

There’s zero percent chance the rapha core bibs will be too narrow in the chamois for you - the pad is by far the widest of any I have had.

I just recently got a pair of Rapha’s. The last couple of years I have used Castelli bibs but I have experienced some chafing on the upper thigh on longer rides, likely due to the slimmer padding that you pointed out. Before I used Assos bibs but wanted to try something different.

My judgement on the Rapha’s is that the shape of the padding is similar to Assos but not as thick. They work well on longer rides for me but are not at the same level of comfort as Assos.

I hardly ever use my core cargos I got last year.
I don’t fancy wearing a diaper, less so while seating on 1-2 inches worth of saddle and moving my legs.

The Rapha bibs are not what they used to be. I dont like them anymore.
Pas normal pro bibs are the best i have ever had

Ya Rapha has changed.
Are the Pas bibs like the old Rapha as far as not to compressive in the legs?

I dont believe they are. For me they are really a good fit and quality overall. I could perhaps say they remind me a little of the rapha pro lighweight
