Recovery Duration Between Intervals

Saw this short clip from a presentation by Scott Christensen online recently. Biggest take away is that as you get more in shape and closer to your A race, recoveries between reps should be extended. Christianson comments this is “reverse” thinking as we tend to reduce recovery as fitness increases. [Note: this is for high intensity intervals (500 meter run on the track)].

Seems in cycling, and discussion on the forum, the focus is on building time in zone. Curious if anyone adjusts “time in recovery” / rest periods as training progresses as well? Do you tend to take more or less rest as you increase fitness? If so how do you feel it impacted your training?
