Return Sweet Spot Base plans

Please bring back the old SSB plans. Or at least make them manually available.

Thanks

This will get you most of the way there but I made a sweet spot progression I share with folks on my website https://347cycling.com that I call Foundational Base that revolves around 2 sweet spot sessions per week and the rest the user can fill in with endurance riding. The zip file contains workouts in multiple formats. And it’ll get you to 1x90 in 8 weeks. Feel free to try that if you want a solid progression

Thanks. Ideally I’m keen for the old SSB High Volume plan. Looking back through my TR Calendar the first week looked like the below.

Having done SSB hv many times I can tell you you’ll get just about all the benefit limiting to two workouts a week and just riding more endurance

More generally, I’d love some manual plan builder options, maybe a “for experts only” section or something. I believe you used to be able to specify polarized vs. SS-heavy/pyramidal, and it’d also be great to be able to just manually specify an X-week base, build, or specialty block.

You can sort of get some of this functionally by just picking a short “build FTP” plan, but it still splits into build/specialty and there’s minimal ability to specify polarized vs. pyramidal or other options. IME you pretty much just always get some combo of a SS, a VO2 and a threshold workout every week.

Didn’t these get canned for a reason? There are better ways to go about progressing SST than the old high volume plans. (And I completed ssb 1 and 2 back in the day).

I did SSBMV2 a couple of times - Week 5 of that schedule was absolutely brutal. I never made it through build, I was completely cooked both times.

Agreed it was brutal. I made it through multiple times and the result was some of the most consistent FTP improvements I’ve achieved while using TrainerRoad for over a decade.

Is that correct for MV? I feel like it was 5 days a week, not 6…but maybe I was just adding a day off?

Just to add to the stockpile, here’s what appears to be a screen shot of MV 1 that I found online

It’s quite possible I added the Friday Pettit workout to my table at some point and that the OG plan was five days / week.

OG plans were 5 days for mid and 6 days for HV.

We’ve limited intensity to three days a week as we believe that’s the best way to progress. In terms of intensity, more is not better. It’s pretty easy to saturate stress-signal responders and 4+ days of intensity is overkill in pretty much all scenarios.

I agree with @hubcyclist here – 2-3 days of Sweet Spot a week is enough.

Didn’t there used to be some url-hacking you could do to bring up the old training plan versions?
I let my subscription lapse so I can’t actually check. Possible it’s still there, although the training plan pages have seen a number of changes in the last few years.

@eddiegrinwald general Base HV does not have enough TSS. Part 1 has 375 where SSB HV Part 1 has 600+. I get that the old SSB plans are no longer TrainerRoad recommended. There are other plans that are not recommended yet we still have them eg Polarized/Traditional Base. Just asking to be able to add it into my calendar as an option/manual adjustment. Make it a toggle to have it visible again please.
