Returning from Illness

Hey,
I got pretty sick with the last two weeks of Base Mid Volume II left to go on my plan and did not do any riding for 2.5 weeks. Should I go back further in the plan when I resume or pick up where I left off.

I had planned on doing the final three weeks of base i.e. repeating the last week I completed and the two outstanding but should I go back further?

Assuming you got sick the week of Spencer +2, and assuming “pretty sick” means it affected a lot more of your life than training, if I was in your shoes, here’s what I’d do for a week:

  • Volunteer (from recovery week, just to get back on the bike)
  • Beech (from recovery week, testing legs on a longer workout) or Andrews if Volunteer felt awesome
  • Rest day
  • Darwin (from week before Spencer +2) or Tallac +3 if you feel like climbing Alpe d’Huez
  • Rest day
  • Mills or Mary Austin -1 (pick your poison)
  • Rest day
  • Begin week of Spencer +2

So, rather than jumping back into a VO2 Max workout, I’d do a couple of easy days to wake up the legs, a couple of hard days to wake up some fitness, plenty of rest, and take it all gently and adjusting downward if a workout feels too hard.
