RGT Cycling acquired by Wahoo = "Wahoo X"

They are Threshold in their System but yes SST and just under Threshold but they are to build FTP (select MAP as well if you want more intensity)

In the filters just select MAP and FTP to see the workout that focus on those energy systems.
I agree it’s a bit odd if you are use to traditional 2x 20 FTP sessions etc.

But the sessions are focused on building FTP if you filter by 4DP focus

Plus don’t forget you now have RGT with its workouts plus any you upload.

Isn’t the issue there that garmin charges a big fee to companies to be able to do that and since RGT was small they didn’t want to spend money on that? Wahoo would have the money of course

For me, I think WX is appealing from an all in one solution when I can choose a plan and add the options for strength and/or yoga. It’s not that I can’t do those things on my own outside of a trainer road plan but it’s nice to just have it there in my calendar.

I’m a legacy TR user so don’t know if I’ll ever give that up and I still love all the TR workouts and their iPhone app.

A cool feature for WX would be for them to, as part of a plan, recommend some RGT races as a replacement workout.

This is similar to the Peleton model of “it just works,” and that was wildly successful during COVID lockdown. Will be interesting to see how this pans out. In general, real competition should be good for consumers by driving more features and/or reduced prices to hold/gain market share.

Cool I totally missed this, but it still leaves it all a bit fragmented, calender here, workout there e.t.c, but it will be interesting to see how Wahoo pull it all together, as I posted above, their release cycle for Sytm has been dire / none existant, with a lot of the features such as custom workouts not appearing BUT I wonder if some of this was down to the accusition of RGT and not wanting to have two workout editors/players, it will be interesting to see where they go, and it is (or rather could be) a bit of a market disrupter, if they get the two systems (and their head units) working together

First time for me. Looks nice, library a bit slim but a lot of workouts similar to those my coach prescribes (stuff similar to ‘FTP/MAP builds’ have been pure gold for me lately). Language is certainly different, but more accurate along with being able to actually use my real sprint power (NM), 1-min power (AC), 5-min power (MAP), and threshold (FTP). No weird WL/PL funny business trying to use FTP to targets, I like it. The HR zones align with what I’m using (WindWarrior™ combo of Friel and what works), and they say cTHR may vary +/- 3bpm. Yup. Not that I’m planning to move from outside to inside, but overall somewhat positive first impression. They have some work to do, looks like a good start.

You’re always so good at dropping acronyms that I don’t understand!

I really do need to read up on all the new training lingo that is becoming more and more popular. I get lost any time we go beyond zones 1-7.

LOL that’s why I wrote the easy names first!

  • 5-sec sprint power (NM)
  • 1-min power (AC)
  • 5-min power (MAP or last minute of ramp test)
  • threshold power (FTP)

further decoding for @Pbase
(links added because I used google to check my spelling and found useful links.)
NM - neuromuscular

AC - anaerobic capacity

MAP - maximum aerobic power

FTP - functional threshold power
We’ll just pretend everyone agrees on what FTP is  Search the forum if you want hundreds of posts on ‘what is FTP’…

(holds breath… hoping this doesn’t swing OT into another FTP topic)

Thanks everyone. This has been an incredibly helpful thread for me and I’ll be diving in.

Side note, I’m doing gravel locos in a few weeks and I’ve uploaded the 63 mile route to RGT. Now that should be interesting!

Yeah, exactly the point I made above on why TR and Zwift may be “forced” to merge and figure out the details later. The comprehensive training ecosystem will be too appealing for many to consider other options.

The price will be an incentive for me to look into it for sure, but I think for me it will ultimately come down to the quality of the features, not the breadth. I found both SYSTM and RGT to be underdeveloped In some areas and stretched a little thin, so the sum ended up feeling less than it’s parts. Had my complaints about the UI as well which definetly extend to Zwift

To be fair I can see that approach working for people that want a bit of everything (and I suspect that may be a larger percentage of the market), but I’ve leaned towards TR in the past simply because I’ve found it more polished and user-friendly when it comes to the limited features I do use. With that said I still think there’s still a lot of room for improvement in those areas and the bulk of TR development isn’t really headed in a direction that interests me, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes over time depending on how other services deliver.

Yeah this is the real big news for TR users!

Sure, but per my mention of that same comment/article in the DCR one, Ray replied with…

Indeed, Zwift need a kick in the rear. Development seems to be slow. When releases/updates come out, they are bug ridden, many of which could be caught by having someone install said update and going for a ride or two. In short, QA is horrible or non-existent.

Did Wahoo kill or hide features in Sufferfest? I’m not seeing anything that warrant such comparison between TR and Systm. Actually pretty disappointed based on a cursory view and beside a few sprinkles (yoga, mental, weights, etc), I’m not seeing much to write home about after the jump to 4DP from the video subscription.

Hope they don’t kill off RGT.

Wahoo right now is a jack of all trades but a master of none. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing as there is some good things just cobbled together at this point.

for me I like the “it just works” model. I know many here enjoy digging deep into the data and analyzing all their workouts and questioning if AI is making the right adjustments, etc. at this point my life I don’t really want to do that. I want a plan to follow. I still have a coach which I love so I don’t have to think about workouts. It’s all included.

I do like TR option of TrainNow but I’d need to fill in the gaps for strength training and yoga myself. Not a big deal but nice with WX just to pick those things as plan options that show up on the calendar.

In case Wahoo product manager comes past to read:

Please expand the original Sufferfest videos approach on structured training! DO NOT LET SUFFERFEST GO AWAY!

For me Sufferfest videos is still the only valid way to do longer, harder, structured workouts on a trainer. Curated music, a quirky story line to keep the mind engaged, riding instructions, 4DP model more differentiated than using just FTP has been in place for a few years, and they had the cross-training on the platform for a while, too. ISLAGIATT anybody?
