There is also Xert on the market, could it be a candidate for Zwift as well?
Garmin/Tacx has also gotten some serious competition as a result, Garmin is not getting off the ground at all with the Tacx training app,
so Wahoo is overruling Garmin/Tacx now!
yes, they are integrating Garmin Connect more and more, but that is not enough, so you can’t use Vector 3 and so on, the App is very limited for me, the Training Plans are a joke.
The videos of the routes should be good (thats the one and only thing), but you read again and again that there are major problems with the app
So the Tacx Training App could be interesting if it offered more options like TR or Zwift.
Sort of like importing a workout of the day into Zwift and riding some virtual track
But Wahoo first has to design the uncontrolled growth of their apps in such a way that everything becomes compatible with each other
That’s true, there’s only so much that can be done with a poor quality source file. It’s recommended to build the route first using a route builder site, instead of using the gpx file from an IRL ride.
It’s always worth using the Bend/Gradient Problems tools as well after a One-Click Quick Fix. Only takes a couple of minutes and helps to iron out any remaining issues.
I personally use the bend smoothing tools etc. as well to try and ensure the turns are like you get on the real life course, but that’s probably overkill for most.
At this moment in time that is a fair comment. Let see how it improves, it is fragmented at the moment, I guess it will take some time for integration. Having said that after playing with it last night I’m impressed they’ve got it semi stitched together already. I hope it won’t be long until you can add your custom workouts from RGT (and the RGT library) to your Wahoo Calender (CLNDR)
Someone mentioned having to manual upload your rides from RGT to connect.
I have it automated. My RGT rides are synched to Strava and free TP… and I remember which but one is linked to Connect so RGT appears in Connect no need for manual download and upload to Connect.
Having said that its not as clean as it should be… it should be direct.
In the world of virtual cycling training apps, that sounds like Garmin has done next to nothing compared to others. It’s as if I’m in a race and the person ahead of me is riding at 20mph and I increase my speed from 15mph to 17mph. I’m not gaining I’m just not falling behind as quickly.
I agree that Wahoo needs to figure out how they’re going to seamlessly merge wahoo systm/sufferfest and RGT cycling in a way that makes sense.
Big learning this morning. Just because you schedule a ride on magic roads doesn’t mean it just starts at the time. Give yourself a good 5 minutes after login for it to build the course. Maybe 10.
It’s not taken more than about a minute for RGT to build the course when joining a race on a magic road before for me. Might be down to extra demand at the moment I guess
While some RGT fans love the empty worlds, the simple reality is that’s not exactly a selling point for a social riding app/platform. And to fix that, you need money. Lots of it.
I’ve mentioned before that Zwift’s competitive advantage is its user base. People stick with Zwift because there are thousands of people there to ride with and hundreds of “friends”.
Trying to peel that away is very difficult….you have some influencers who start to shift and then pull others until it grows into a groundswell of change. And it takes a LOT of money.
That said, when your primary competitive advantage is not proprietary, you are always vulnerable….especially when there are long-standing complaints and frustrations among your user base.
Will be interesting to see how this goes….I’m not interested in changing at this point, simply because SYSTM and RGT seems to a situation of “too many choices” at this point. I don’t want to have to think that much about what I am gonna do that day…which workout type, etc. between TR and Zwift, I know what is scheduled / want to do and I just get on and ride.
But we’ll see what happens….the MR aspect is definitely interesting, especially if they can simplify the process.
They have continued to add Sufferfest videos in the old style. Not a ton but The Model was a great one that came out in the last couple months. High production values, recent top level race footage and synced seamlessly with music. Might be the best one yet. Hopefully their layoffs didn’t include the amazing individuals who put those (and the new ProRace workouts) together.
Its actually got smoother, for a while it had to be scheduled a long time in advance and during the period when premium was free to all they had to disable magic roads IIRC.
Hopefully for me RGT continues in its current form but if it merges into the Wahoo SYSTM (or whatever vowels they have lost), I’ll likely cancel, as I prefer TR and outdoors. RGT is just a useful distraction for me on some workouts and very seldomly used alone.
I’ve been waiting to mention this, but with the new “Wahoo X” name for the combined service, they have apparently declared war on all letters, not just vowels. Minimalist to the XTRM
I use the stock plans from your coach for my own training and several of the SYSTM workouts are great subs for the plan when the weather or timing require me to ride inside.
