Who is heading to Steamboat this weekend? What are you riding?
I’m riding Green, my better (at bikes) half is riding Blue. Will be in town starting Saturday morning for the festivities.
Best of all - after another week of garbage air, the smoke forecast looks promising for the weekend. So do your dances/prayers/sacrifices before you head out
curios where to find a long term (or at least more than one day) of smoke forecast/air quality predictions. Will be up in Leadville this weekend and wanting to see what it will be like after how bad its been.
Local weather guy (FB page Denver and Front Range Weather) says high pressure should move in at the end of the week, pushing smoke to north and east of Colorado.
It has been a stretch of 100% trash air. This is going to be a welcome change!
Eta: Also, the National Weather Service Denver/Boulder has been dropping 2-3 day smoke forecast models on FB.
Will be doing Red for a nice medium intensity day in the saddle followed by tons of fun afterwards
I did Ned Gravel’s 40mi version a week ago, and that was the same elevation with 33% less distance, so I’m expecting it to be fairly easy especially w/ aid stations.
I’m riding the black course. I won’t be fast, but barring an unforeseen event, I’ll be able to finish in time for a few late afternoon beers.
The forecast has the wind switching to be from the south later in the week. That should clear away the smoke, and hopefully we’ll have clear skies for the ride Sunday.
The views are a lot better when you can actually see more than a couple of miles!
This was probably the biggest bummer at the The Rift in Iceland a few weeks ago….the whole way back, it was raining and low clouds everywhere obscured what should have been magnificent views. Made a hard slog that much harder because you were just focusing on what was in front of you.
I saw Valtteri Bottas is racing Steamboat. That’s cool. I’m guessing Tiffany Cromwell is racing to win it or place well. Obviously, I didn’t really think about the Canyon connection and the possibility of them being there because of that.
Tiffany will be in the pro field, no doubt. I’m sure he is sick of talking about F1, but I bet he would get pretty chatty (for a Fin) if you ask him about his coffee roasting.
Yeah, I started getting into F1 last year after watching the first two seasons of “Drive to Survive” on Netflix…started watching the races in 2020 and continued this year. This year has been fantastic so far…
I’m riding the Blue. Trying to go sub 7 hours since 2019 I finished in 7 hours and 1 minute. Hung some new Renee Hurst tires today along with new brake pads. Smoked my brakes at Rooted VT.
