Lilo, an English Pointer. She loves going mountainbiking with me.
Deaf? That’s just what he wants you to think.
Our wee furry baby beagle Jazz, first pic when she was “ looking after me” after my fall, the second is her normal diva self.
This is Roo (or Pooper-Roo, or Roo-tabaga, or Kanga-Roo-gula if you’re, like, not into the whole brevity thing). She is a big fan of frozen kong treats, and not a big fan of the bicycles because that always means I’m leaving without her.
What a great thread. If you don’t walk through and like each dog pic you are a terrible person.
My doggo now is a rescue originally from Romania where he had a hard life. He’s had 5 teeth removed in the four years he’s been with us (he was estimated to be 4yrs old when we got him here in Switzerland) and shows signs of having several puppy diseases dogs are automatically vaccinated against. But, I trained him to run off-leash with me in the forests.
Here we are about half-way through what was about an 11-mile run, which was about his max. He will drink from forest fountains (troughs feed by pipes) but not from whatever liquid I may be carrying.
This was more recent and was most certainly not a run he was enjoying for obvious reasons.
But my best running buddy, the one that my handle “mountainrunner” actually comes from, is now passed. She would drink orange HEED from my bottle (which wasn’t my preferred flavor but the flavor she’d drink so I switched), take snacks from me without breaking stride, follow “left,” “right,” “up,” and “down” commands when she was in the lead. Her longest runs were about 14 miles and she was doing about 30-miles / week with me in the Santa Monica Mountains. For context, after my “last” Ironman in 2004 (in quotes because I didn’t do another due to burnout until 2018) I only ran with her in the mountains for nearly five months before a marathon I frequently did. No track or road work, just running with my dog, I somehow did a 3:15 (and qualified for Boston). She was quick and I juiced veggies for her and took care of her as she did me. She passed away in 2016 in London just before we moved to Switzerland. This was a loop off Westridge, down into Sullivan Canyon and backup, that was named after her many years ago.
And then there was this beast. Found in a trash can with a birth defect (a stump for his front left leg) when he was weeks old, we adopted him when he was about 6wks old. We was a monster climbing hills. Two-“wheel” drive with massive haunches to launch him. He wasn’t too keen on the downhill, as one might expect. And on flats, he was fine. While my other dog would tell me when she was hot and tired, this guy wouldn’t and I had to force him to stop and rest. He too passed away in 2016.
Who is a good thread?
You are!
Yes you are, Yes you are!
Good thread!
(My feel good thread)
Here is Reggie, our lab/border collie mix, waiting for permission to destroy his balloon animals.
He took a piece of our hearts with him when we said goodbye in November 2019.
This is the best thread on the forum and whoever says otherwise is itching for a fight!
