Speedy Recovery @IvyAudrain Super tough brake to have a crash that forces this type of decision. Always better to err on the side of caution.

Sorry to hear about your crash. You’re not alone—I crashed last weekend on my last prep ride before Tahoe Trail and now I can’t race it as I had wanted to. We’ll heal up and there will be another opportunity.

Sorry to hear about Ivy’s crash. Bummer!

Lots of talk of “rice and eggs” in this one. I get the rice, but eggs? Any tried this pre-race?

Some trail footage from a very speedy Kiwi who’s there for ST6

@Jonathan @IvyAudrain - Wildland firefighter here. Fire lookouts are no longer used as much because they aren’t needed anymore. They stem from a time where our firefighting tools were much less effective, it took alot longer to get to wildfires, and there were less aircraft/people in the bush to report wildfires. Because of those circumstances, early detection was critical. Fire lookouts have been replaced by fixed wing aerial patrols, remote satellite sensing, and in some place high resolution automated cameras that are monitored from a central location.

BUT - Alberta, where single track 6 is this year, has a robust network of over 100 live in fire lookouts, It is one of the last places that has such a comprehensive network. In fact, there is one just 5km south of Crownset (Ironstone Lookout) that you will be able to see from the race route. Same thing in West Bragg, the Moose Mountain lookout is 5 km west of the race route.

You guys asked and I had to answer!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
I’m finally feeling better and am back to intensity this week after focusing on chilling and recovering last week. A few wounds are still on the tail-end of healing but I’m being a tough little soldier about it.
Glad that the ’less visible’ injuries I was worried about turned out to be no problem. Lucky!

  • THANKS FOR FIRE LOOKOUT INFO! Finally some answers haha.
