I might have a work opportunity to move to Sofia, Bulgaria for 6-12 months. Do any of you have any experience riding or just spending time there? I don’t know much about it at all beyond a bit of internet searching which didn’t turn up a lot on the riding front (“a lot” is relative to spending most of my life in Northern Nevada and Northern California)
As for riding I do a mix of mountain, road and gravel.
Thanks!
Hey, i am bulgarian, but i do not live in Sofia. Gravel in Bulgaria is not well known. There is facebook group called gravelbiking bulgaria, there are plenty of group rides. Also there is a Sofia bicycling group with a lot of group rides. Be very careful with riding around, because the drivers in bulgaria are reckless. Amazing routes outside the capital 1-2 hour away with a car if you have one. You can have amazing bike trips around the country. Look for routes in Strava and Komoot (for Sofia), komoot is not popular here. You can enjoy cycling routes in the mountains with great elevation. If you have more questions feel free to ask. Be ready for stray dogs everywhere including on the gravel roads. i think you can socialize through facebook and have decent time here.
Thanks for the info! If this opportunity happens I’ll be reaching out.
