I didn’t use my Kickr for about a week because I was at a bike race and then took a few days off. I don’t know if the app got updated without me noticing but all of a sudden I can no longer perform a spin down calibration.
It says the device will automatically calibrate itself. I couldn’t find any info on this though and the little help icon still mentions spin down.
The reason I wanted to perform one is that suddenly even 140W feels like work and I’m not sure if my legs fell off or what happened.
If you want to do a manual calibration, I believe the Wahoo app is your best option. May take some special, hiddent steps but that is the most direct path AFAIK.
I’ll still do a spindown with the Wahoo app every now and then because I can sometimes feel a difference in resistance too.
My thoughts about this are that I believe the auto-calibration only works when you’re coasting and the trainer can take a read on the friction of the bearings. The problem with this is that I often don’t coast when using TR, so the trainer won’t calibrate until after my workout.
This is probably fine if you’re regularly using your trainer, but this time of year it might be a week or two between uses for me, and the temperature is always fluctuating in the house, so I do feel the need to perform spindowns at times.
I’d recommend spinning for a few minutes and then using the Wahoo app to perform a spindown just as @mcneese.chad mentioned if you feel the need to. Sometimes I can feel a pretty substantial difference afterward. Maybe it’s worth doing, and maybe it’s a placebo.
