A 66km/41mi time trial in 40ºC/104º heat was made even harder by a flat so bad that it wouldn’t hold air even after 2 tire plugs and trying to put a tube in it two separate times.
Alex goes into this, how he had to ride the rim on gnarly terrain, and how he managed the situation psychologically.
Zach covers how that situation changed the stage and his outlook on the race in general.
It’s predicted to be even hotter tomorrow–so hot they are going to shorten the stage a bit and start the athletes early. The profile is brutal and is sure to expose some cracks after three hard days of racing.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s recap of Stage 3!
