Start a new program or carry on?

Started LV full distance plan for IM lake placid July 2025. Got covid the start of week 4 (i.e. first recovery week) and now (start of week 5) still quite sick, imagining I will miss at least all of week 5 too.

Would you restart or start over? Does it matter?

I would take it easy this week and manage what you can, but nothing outside of Z2. Just try and do some easy workouts if you can. Then reassess.

COVID is not to be taken lightly….too many examples of people coming back too fast and paying the price.

If you can manage some easy workouts this week, then I would let the AI system adjust your workouts from there.

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with COVID—hope you’re able to rest and recover fully soon! :heart_hands:Health should always come first, so it’s wise to prioritize getting back to 100% before diving back into training.

When you feel better, try some low-intensity rides to gauge how you feel, and don’t hesitate to take extra rest if needed. Consistency over time is more important than rushing back.

Once you’re confident that you’re back in good health, I reccomend that you continue with your current Training Plan. TrainerRoad will adjust your training so that you maximise the time you have to prepare for the Ironman. We will will recalibrate your workouts based on your current fitness so that you can move forward form where you are at, and with consideration of the work you have already done.

Take care :mending_heart:. Please let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help!

Thanks @SarahLaverty for the wisdom and the kind wishes.
I am now a bit confused about what’s happened to my plan, though have complicated things a bit (I think?) by doing two things at once. Because I was a bit worried about returning to the same volume (if not immediately then in the coming weeks), I went back and reduced some of the bike time (from 4 to 3hrs z2 for example). When I did this, it seemed to reset the plan to be starting over on the day I made the changes. Then today I realized I could go back into the plan and add my illness, which I did, and it further bumped the plan start (re-start?) date.
Is this what is supposed to be happening? Looks a bit funny. Appreciate your input!
