I’ve recently convinced my fiancé to switch to TR, after doing about 4 weeks of the 10-12 weeks of the Zwift FTP Builder. That plan was mainly Z2, and a handful of Tempo intervals in the last couple of weeks (recognized as Base by the Garmin watch)
I’m curious if she should start from SSB1 or to skip directly to SSB2 or something else?
She is quite new to cycling, just started interval training a month ago. FTP is 116w @ 63kg.
I’d just set up a plan builder plan (use a theoretical date if she hasn’t got an actual target ‘A’ race) and let the TR system do the thinking. Theoretically, I think it should balance up her current status after a bit, which might have been affected by the previous Zwift but don’t over think it
I’d use Plan Builder as well. It will stick in a few blocks of base before entering build blocks - I think you can post-date the plan start if you want to skip part of the base (it will build it in the past).
As she’s new to cycling and training, it probably doesn’t matter (in as much as ANY formal training will result in gains). This assuming she’s not already an elite runner/swimmer/whatever.
As has been stated, unless she is already very fit, she’ll benefit from additional base training. But that assumes she’ll be getting her base training at a sufficient intensity. Make sure she pays attention to the post-workout survey and completes them using the guidance from TR:
To me, the last sentence of each rating guidance is key to completing them properly. It points to what additional work (if any) you would have been capable of. To me this is much more objective than trying to evaluate your level of “focus.”
TR uses your performance on the workout, combined with your response to the survey to adapt your upcoming workouts and feed you the right one.
Thanks for this. Didn’t know about these extended workout survey instructions myself (compared to the app). Seems like I sometimes overrate the workouts.
