Hi all,
I’ve a question which you may guide me. I use trainerroad for years but I always trained without having a “real” objective besides health stuff.
However, 3 months ago I stared to ride outside with some friends, you can consider that it is a fast group ride ;).
I revised my adaptive training plan and picked a balanced training plan, training 6 days a week and the masters option (i’m 44 years old).
I actually train 7 days a week, where Monday I do an active recovery. Basically, I only don’t train, when I’m sick.
Here comes my question: “the system plans on Saturdays a 2h threshold activity, where Sunday is my over 400 TTS rides. What is the main benefit in doing a harsh ride 24h before my weekend warrior race day”.
While my legs feel ok on Sunday, my mind says, you should have had an easier ride on Saturday
Thank you
How many hard rides does the plan give you each week? I’m guessing on a balanced masters plan 2 days - I would look to shift the Saturday ride to Thursday or Friday if possible, take Saturday for an endurance day. I’d also be taking the Monday as a rest day but YMMV.
Now only 2 because I shuffled around
Kudos on getting out on some group rides!
I checked out your TR Calendar and noticed your Group Rides are currently set as “Endurance” rides. If you switch out on of your “hard” days for that group ride (which may need a little shuffling/reordering of workouts), that should give you a better weekly training layout.
These articles should help you out with that:

Feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions or need any help getting your plan sorted out!
will revise thank you. I didn’t knew I could change that without negatively breaking the AI interface. I took the plan proposal as is and only changed the proposed hours into my own available hours. Also I don’t know what is best to set: hard intervals, easy ride, endurance etc or an other order. I expected that based on Sunday group ride. The system automatically picked the right training
Zack I’ve got some similar question if I could tack on?
I’m not a regular group rider, I did one last weekend. 4.7hrs IF 0.79. I did 1hr threshold the day before, which now seems “sub optimal”.
Looks like I can ride with the group again on two weekends in December, but I can’t seem to convert just a single outdoor workout to a group ride without replanning the whole lot.
Would this be a good schedule:
- Tue ==> Easy
- Wed ==> Hard Intervals
- Thu ==> Endurance
- Fri ==> Easy
- Sat ==> Endurance
- Sun ==> Hard ride (group ride)
- Mon => Recovery ride (manual picked)
I actually didnt understood that I needed to take into consideration that I needed to pick the days to do hard, endurance etc. As stated before I expected that AI would pick the best workout for faster group rides.
Maybe AI will revise the training based on my end of training evaluation. And make other days harder, easier as recommended?
This looks like a decent schedule to me. I usually like having at least one day off the bike completely (it keeps it from becoming too much of an obsession) but everyone’s different in that regard.
