The Cyclocross 2020 Thread

Its early, but never too early to prep for the next CX season. How’s everyone feeling? What’s your plan for the season? Will there be a race season in your area? Let’s get things going!

Cross is coming in WA, Australia on July 17th. Stoked to say the least.

Very unclear in the UK. Many of the regional CX leagues have cancelled their up-coming seasons already, but it’s possible there might be some ‘pop-up’ races later in the year. British Cycling has this plan to reintroduce events, but there are no dates past this month yet:

I’m training with the hope that some cx racing will happen. As mentioned, here in the uk it is very uncertain what will be allowed and when, so for now I’m focussing on general fitness and conditioning and will ramp things up as and when events are confirmed.

I’ll be surprised if there is much of a cx season in the US unfortunately. With the Chicago cup being cancelled, that puts nationals in jeopardy. If nationals get cancelled, then I imagine that a lot of the local stuff is going to be fewer and further between.

My local series OVCX, is already cancelled for the entire season. It’s a bummer, but probably for the best.

Bummer… I was hoping to get to an OVCX race this year.

The St. Louis CX race series hasn’t cancelled yet. Might be a drive from Ohio, but the races are fantastic.

doesnt look like we will be getting any in SE Qld (Brisbane) this year :sob:

I’m in the UK and just continuing to train as if the season is still going ahead, even though I am pretty sure that this will not be the case.

I’m currently about 30 watts higher than this time last year & hope to be even stronger come September when the season would normally kick off. I normally finish near the back, so hoping that some races do go ahead just so I can see how much I have improved. I’m hoping to be able to consider myself to be a mid-pack rider.

Bummer. Probably the right decision, but I’m still super-bummed.

I’m going to proceed as if there is a season in Minnesota and work on drills, as well as riding a bunch of single track on my cross bike. I hate to take the season off. In a race sense, yes, but in a training sense, no.

Damn that sucks…I was planning on doing at least that and Jingle Cross this year. Looking like racing may be a total scratch around here…

I cant possibly see them moving forward with nationals unless Illinois gets to phase 5…which is basically a vaccine is out, or cases drop to zero. That aint happening this year. I’d be surprised if it happened in 2021 honestly…

Love to hear how some of the races go.

I’m in a similar position. Watts are up but races are unlikely. I will keep training just in case…

Major bummer… I’ve raced Trek CXC the last three years. Such a great event.

I was planning on cross being my first ever bike race this September but I doubt anything will be on where I am in the Uk

That is disappointing… I hope you stick with it and race next year. Cross is so much fun!

I think in the UK there’ll be something happening. We put on a race each year and even if standard mass start racing isn’t possible, there’ll be a really strong desire to put on something. We have a very ‘can do’ attitude at the club so will find a way. There’ll be a bunch of other promoters with the same attitude.
So whilst a normal season might be a bit of a tall order, it could be a good year to dip your toe in the water.
