Thoughts on Look Bikes?

Does anyone own or have any experience with Look bikes? I’m in the market for a new bike (currently riding a 2017/18-ish Canyon Endurace) and my local shop can get me a great deal on the Look 765 Optimum which is their endurance bike. I’m also considering the 785 Huez, though I’m not sure if it makes much sense to buy a “climbing” bike when I live in a flat area.

I found one guy on youtube who seems to love both of these bikes, but other than that any good first hand info seems non existant in what I can find. So if any one can tell me anything about either of these bikes I’d love to hear it. Unfortunatley the shop doesn’t have any on the floor for me to test ride and get any first hand experience with

My understanding is that the quality of the frames is top notch. The frames are made in-house in Look’s own factories located in Tunisia.

I’d definitely test ride one and see how you get along. At the end of the day geometry and fit are more important than e. g. weight.

I have the 785 Huez RS with rim brakes. Lovely bike, weighs just 6.8kg with pedals at size 59/XL and is a joy to ride. Highly recommended.
The quality isn’t top notch though – when changing the bottom bracket cups last year I noticed that the bottom bracket itself was quite unevenly drilled, with an oval shape that left the cups quite loose. The LBS could fix it so it doesn’t worry me, but still an annoying little quirk.

I really do not have any expiration with the bikes, but from my point of view it’s some of the best looking (no pun intended) bikes out there! :fire:

I’ve had a 795 Blade RS for approximately 18 months now. Love the build & ride quality - I came from a Tarmac SL6 Ultralight and Supersix Evo Ultimate previously. Obviously not as light as those two bikes, but still around ~7kg including pedals. The bike is stiff without being uncomfortable and holds its speed incredibly well. The build quality is 1st class - I’ve had no issues in the 15,000km’s or so I’ve put on it. Still brings a smile to my face each time I get out on it:

That’s one sexy road bike! Your THM (Clavicular?) cranks and carbon (?) chain rings complete the setup.

I like the Look of that bike :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Thanks! Yep - Clavicula SE Road w/ PM and Carbon-TI chainrings.

I agree with this. The reach and stack of the 795 was slightly longer and lower than the geo chart would indicate, so definitely test ride ride one if you can so you can get your fit/setup right from the get-go! I know you’ve you’ve said your local shop doesn’t have any on the floor, but perhaps they could reach out to customers that have bought the model & size you’re interested in and pass on your contact details? Or else try contacting some nearby cycling clubs? Cyclists generally don’t mind talking about their bikes! :upside_down_face:

Never ridden one, but personally like the look of them… The blade RS in the Mondrian paint is one sexy bike.

After my experience with Look Huez RS I would skip them. The bike is very light (rim brakes, Bora Ultra tubular wheels), Looks very nice, is stiff thanks to the Look cranks and is not aero. But I had a frame and seat post deformation. I was adjusting my saddle a lot but using a torque wrench. When talking to the repair guy (carbon specialist) he noted that my seat clamp was designed to be turned the other way (bolt in the front). When checking if it was my fault, I’ve realized that the bike shop put it together according to the manufacturers visualizations. And they have it wrong still. The deformation zone on the frame doesn’t match the deformation from seat clamp when it is turned the way it is on the photos. My claim was denied and no one cared. I now don’t care about Look.

Damn thats a sexy bike. I only wish I had the budget for it! :upside_down_face:

I picked up a leftover 795 Blade on October and I have a out 1000 miles on it. I absolutely love the bike. What I will say in terms of maintenance, it’s a bit different than many other bikes out there as the torque specs are higher. You need a shop that is used to working on the bikes if you want it to go smoothly.

The frame quality is top notch, the wheels are being replaced as that’s where there was some cost savings. Almost 1700g for carbon wheels :exploding_head:

The bike is fast and light with plenty of room to adjust. The customer service team is also very responsive if you have any questions. I’d highly recommend.

I got mine in November, and I’m really happy with it. Really stable and responsive. The weight penalty compared with other brands seems to be unnoticeable given the ride feel it provides. I’ve also opted for 30mm tires, which might help on top of that.
All in all I’ve also heard very good comments on Look bikes, that was one of the reasons for me to
wait almost 1 year to get this bike (first the black Mondrian which was delayed, then switched to this white version when it was launched…long story…)
