Seigla owners (@Pbase@TooManyDogs@rswagler1@stow@SirDAN), what bags are you running? My short list includes the following but am interested in your experiences.
I use a frame bag and top tube bag from from a friend of mine who makes frame and top tube bags for laufs. Itās just a side gig so I believe he just makes them on request. But Iāve had them a few years and they work fine. At least on my size L Seigla though the top tube bolts sit back a bit so the top tube bag sits further back from the stem. I fixed it with one of those bottle cage relocator pieces.
The apidura bag is nice though and fit nicely. When I went from true grit to Seigla while waiting for the bike to arrive I ordered the apidura frame bag as I wasnāt 100% sure how my true grit frame big would fit. The apirdura was well built and fit well. But my existing bag was fine.
For normal weekend rides where I donāt need to carry must I have a lead out mini frame bag. Itāll hold my phone, wallet, keys, handful of gels. Itās pretty narrow as well.
I use the 14L saddlebag for overnight trips and/or races where extreme weather is encountered i.e. cold/warm starts vs cold/warm finishes with expected adverse weather. Have seen that a saddle bag improved cda effects rather than hinder so I am not opposed to adding a ābigā saddle bag if needed. Actually squashes down quite small when carrying bare essentials gear not worn.
Also, I swap between the short and the longer top tube bags, dependent upon aided support stations or not, mainly pack gels and phone etc. I donāt like the bolt on version. Use the ones with Velcro straps and zips. The magnet type has forced me to stop and run back to collect odds and sods, or I have lost stuff out of it over corrugations.
I use silicon tape where the straps bind on the frame. And remove when not in use. Was not going to faff with. Helicopter tape. The white is a gloss. Assume the blue is too.
I used the Silca one for a bit when I had my Lauf because it was bolt on and I donāt like having straps on my frame. It was nice, but a bit small. I gave it to my wife pretty quickly though because I would hit it with my knees when climbing OOS. She ended up taking it off the bike though because she rides an XS and decided to go USWE pack for more waterā¦so she just puts her extra stuff in the pack now. Tyre tubeless plugs. For quick access and always available. Silicon tape underneath and they are taped on top of the tape. Keep the removable part free from tape, sits proud of the frame. Seals well from water. Wash the bike with them on.
I use the Apidura racing bolt on top tube bag and Iām happy with it. I use the Revelate Shrew saddle bag, which collapses down to a manageable size if I donāt need it fully loaded.
This is what I use now, itās sick! No zippers or flaps, just a slot down the middle with magnets on each side. Just reach in and grab what you need ā opens and closes seamlessly.
Watched this review of bike packing bags yesterday. He really liked the bag designs that included a mounting system that stayed attached to the bike and held a detachable dry bag. Anyone have an opinion one way or the other?
Means I cannot use it on the other bikes that donāt have the top tube mounts, so having two top tube bags when one would suffice across all bikes.
Just preference.
For what itās worth, I have a set of Orr Cycling top tube, bar, and frame hydration bags and really like them. The top tube bag can be bolted or strapped on.
What saddle bag are you using? I have a small saddle bag which is fine for my normal rides but for unbound would like something a bit larger.
Evoc seems to have a couple options for larger saddle bags. I donāt want huge but just a bit more so I donāt have to stuff co2 and tools in a few different places
I have a Specialized bag that is a decent size. Canāt remember the model, but got it in 2019 when I did Unbound the first time. I can get a tube, CO2, levers and my ShakeDry jacket in itā¦.but it is pretty packed with that (and the ShakeDry rolls down pretty small).
Definitely considering a slightly larger saddle bag, tooā¦ā¦but not 100% certain on that.
