TR for Distance Event

I’m just about to begin the specialty phase of my TR high volume plan. I have a 57 mile climbing event (B) in 5 weeks and a 147 mile rolling/climbing event (A) in 8 weeks. I’m a little concerned that I’m not getting in enough distance rides. The longest rides on my current plan have been 2 1/2 hours and I’ve somewhat frequently added an hour of endurance to these workouts (either threshold or SS). What do you guys suggest? Is TR factoring in the race distance? Specialty phase seems to back off of volume, so not sure what I should do to adjust. Thanks!

In short, train longer if you want to or need to do so. It’s often useful to check fit and comfort on the bike, as well as test fueling. This question has been addressed in a number of prior posts that are worth a look.

As to “what to do”, most people swap out the Sunday SS workout or even a Saturday interval for their long ride outside.
